What out of conference series/tournament are you most looking forward to?
Aaron Fitt:
Highlight of my early calendar is probably South Carolina/Clemson. I think it’s fair to say Kendall’s highlight will be the Houston College Classic (or whatever it’s called now), which is just loaded this year.
FYI, the renamed and revamped " Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic" dumped Rice & Houston for this year ... and will feature Mississippi, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU & LSU on March 3-5 at Minute Maid:
Friday, March 3, 2017
12:05 pm - Ole Miss at Baylor
3:35 pm - Texas Tech at Texas A&M
7:05 pm - TCU at LSU
Saturday, March 4, 2017
12:05 pm - Texas Tech at Ole Miss
3:35 pm - Baylor at LSU
7:05 pm - Texas A&M at TCU
Sunday, March 5, 2017
10:05 am - LSU at Texas Tech (2 pm curfew)
1:35 pm - TCU at Ole Miss (5:45 pm curfew)
5:05 pm - Texas A&M at Baylor

Is Texas Tech fit to defend their Big 12 regular season title? Do they have the pitching to get a repeat trip to Omaha?
Kendall Rogers:
Keith, I think they could be, but TCU is an extremely difficult team to get past this year. Tech has a terrific one-two punch in Davis Martin (love this guy) and Gingery. I think the big key for Tech this year is that there’s more bullpen depth and power arms than in the past. That should help negate some of the losses in the offensive production department. Tim Tadlock is jazzed about this team and so am I. Can’t wait to see them in Houston.

What do you think of the challenging OOC schedule for #1 TCU
Kendall Rogers:
I like it and I think the Horned Frogs are ready. I look for this club to embrace it.

Thoughts on the Southland Conference this year?
Kendall Rogers:
SLC — It really looks wide open after Sam Houston State in my eyes. I really, really like what Matt Deggs has back this season and they’ve got a massive series week two at home against the Ragin’ Cajuns. Heath Donica/Riley Gossett is a stout one-two punch and you know Deggs will have a productive offense.

Who is a non T25 and non P5 sleeper for Omaha?
Kendall Rogers:
I’d throw Sam Houston State in that mix. Lots of experience. San Diego could be pretty solid, too.

How do you expect David Pierce’s first year in Austin to go?
Kendall Rogers:
Robert, I actually think the Longhorns could be very good if all the pieces fall into place. Zane Gurwitz is a guy I think takes a big step forward this year as a leader and producer at the plate. Bret Boswell is a big key, too, while Austin Todd is my freshman pick to click. Really good athlete and he’s toolsy. Really like the rotation w/ Morgan Cooper leading the way, and Shugart and others should make for a solid bullpen. If the offense does anything at all this year, Texas will easily be a postseason team, IMO.

Thought on Dallas Baptist in 2017?
Kendall Rogers:
Ryan, Dallas Baptist was another team in the mix for our Top 25. I actually think the Pats will be very good this year. Really liked what I saw from them in the fall. Martinson/Johnson/Conn is a solid rotation and my guy to watch is Seth Elledge on the back-end. He’s got an interesting arm angle and was up to 94-95 in the fall. I would keep close tabs on Ray Gaither and Jameson Hannah. I look for big-time seasons from both of those guys this spring.

What is the ceiling for Texas A&M with so many new faces in the starting lineup this year?
Kendall Rogers:
Robert, I think A&M has had a successful season if it gets back to a super regional. I can amend that expectation as the season progresses, but I want to see them surprise me offensively before I make a proclamation beyond that. I do think A&M sets up very well on the mound. Hill/Larkins/Kilkenny will be a solid 1-2-3 and Corbin Martin should be one of the nation’s premier guys out of the bullpen … All eyes on Will Bolt/Justin Seely and that offense.
