Good Luck Gunner!
The East-West Shrine Game is this weekend
Gunner is listed as the first QB on the West team.
Date: Saturday, January 21, 2017
Time: 3 p.m. EST
Location: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
Television: Broadcast on NFL Network
Radio: International Radio Broadcast by East-West Shrine Game Radio Network
Quote:More than 90 players from last year’s game signed with professional teams this spring, and more than 70 made final NFL rosters. On average, more than 265 East-West Shrine Game alumni are on NFL rosters each year. Since the game’s inception, 72 former players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and more than 200 have been named to the College Football Hall of Fame. An invitation to take part in the annual East-West Shrine Game is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the best collegiate football all-stars in the country to showcase their talents in front of top representatives from NFL teams. A strong performance in the game can greatly impact a player’s chances of a career in the NFL.
The players are selected based on their potential to make an NFL roster. A consensus of the 32 NFL teams is taken into consideration to field two teams of players who meet this criterion. The general divide used to assign East and West teams is the Mississippi River; however, exceptions are made to ensure that the best 100 players are selected for the game, regardless of location.

Good for him! I'm going to try to watch, hopefully he takes full advantage of it.

Interesting that our 3rd or 4th string QB under Tuberville is playing in what is essentially a college all-star game.

If he goes out and has a monster game I will be so happy for him, yet so disappointed for what he had to go through this past season.

I hope he continues to prove that semi-animated corpse that ambled around our sidelines haphazardly for the past four years wrong.

He's probably thrown for as many touchdowns in his career as a lot of guys who play in that game.

Without playing his senior year, essentially, where does he rank in terms of UC QBs all-time?

Wow, that was easy... and frustrating...
Passing Yards
Career: 2nd behind Gino
Single Season: 3rd behind Gino and Greg Cook
Single Game: 3rd behind Moore and Cook
Passing TDs
Career: 2nd behind Gino
Single Season: 2nd behind Mauk
Single Game: 2nd behind Pike
Seriously, WTF...

Statically or in terms of overall perception?
Statiscally he is in the top 4 in most categories. Not to speak ill of him, but if you include intangibles and other factors I don't know if he is even whiffs the Top 5. I would rank them:
1. Greg Cook
2. Tony Pike
3. Ben Mauk
4. Gino Guidugli
5. Zach Collaros
Some might even rank Danny Barrett and Danny McCoin over Gunner.
Don't forget Brendan Kay. Similar kind of QB in terms of metrics and being injury plagued. He actually won at a higher clip, not to mention his stellar MVP Performance in the Belk Bowl.
One could obviously argue Gunner's career was mired by coaching, but the same argument could be made for Gino, Barrett and McCoin.

According to our dear recently departed head coach you can't take any of those numbers seriously because all he did was throw the ball up in the air and let the all american receivers out fight the defenders for the ball. Now I know we had good receivers but it couldn't have been all that, could it?

We have seen in this town QB's with stellar Wideouts who still can't get it to them.. having a stellar WR even if they are all Calvin Johnson, only gets you so far..

I think it's generally agreed by those in the know that a healthy Greg Cook would have been a sure NFL Hall of Famer, one of the major talents of the '70s. That kind of puts him in a class of one on this list.
However, when Gunner was right, he fit with any of the rest of them. Perhaps he just lost it, but I suspect that bad coaching really messed him up.

The saddest thing about that is his injury was pretty much a carbon copy of Drew Brees' injury...and Brees as been better since the surgery. It's crazy to think what modern medicine would've done for the careers of some of the "gone too soon types" (Sayers, Sterling Sharpe, Billy Sims, hell even David Pollack)

If Kiel makes it, I hope he states UC as his Alma Mater on Monday Night Football or this message board will collapse under the collective weight of all the moaning and groaning in here. :)

Unlike Kelce, Gunner has a few good reasons not too (sad to say)
