This will be Dedric's last season as a Tiger.

I fear you're right.
But bleacher report released their nba mock draft yesterday, and dedric Lawson and his impressive stats were nowhere to be found, at least not in the first round.

Still, stranger things have happened. Personally I predict a long and lucrative pro career, but in Europe.

Dedric’s stats and size are good enough for him to get a shot in the NBA. I know there are some but I can’t remember a double-double guy not getting a serious look by several teams.

RE: Interersting comparison
Just did a quick search of about 5 mock drafts. Only one had Dedric listed. It was NBAdraft.net, so a decent site - and he was listed at 48, so that's solid 2nd round.

After the lack of athleticism during the combine last year, a draft pick is against the odds. But as the one site shows, it's still possible. His game results will be improved. If he has worked on some things to help his combine scores, he can get drafted. It would be silly to say right now he has no shot.

I don't know why folks get so hung up on being a first round pick, or even an NBA draft pick.

A kid wants to go pro in any form or fashion, then he's going pro.

Not much difference between working on your game at the DI level as a junior than there is working on your craft as a pro making $60K in Belgium or wherever.

Like the link I posted earlier in the thread - Nick Calathes was a very average college player and NBA washout and he's making $2 million per year overseas.

Maybe Dedric is the new Perry Ellis? He stayed 4 years

Where is he playing now ?

Dont get the rush to turn pro unless you are at least a lottery pick

A 20 year old by himself in Europe ? I guess if you want to be on your own that bad

Depends on each situation I would imagine.

If I could rewind the clock, I'd much rather been making money in Greece or Spain than going to school at Memphis when I was 20.

But that's me now and 20 year old me didn't think that way.

I think the main point though is that all indications point to him leaving...so, may as well get used to it now.

At 20? This isn't going away to college. It's going across the pond. Big difference. Hey he may go. I just don't think it's all cut and dried and some here think

Like I posted in a link earlier, he doesn't have to go overseas...he can work on his craft in the NBDL making $20K a year and one ten day call up to the NBA is worth about $60K. A guy gets one call up a year for 4-5 years and he's done pretty well for himself.

And he can always go back to school. That's the biggest farce of everything these "stay in school" folks put out there...you don't make the NBA, doesn't mean your life falls apart. Just do what most of us do and get a student loan and go back to school.

School don't have anything to do with it

He's gonna make 20K when his dad is making 250K here?

RE: Interersting comparison
Personally, I hope he stays to help the Tigers again next year.

Professionally, I hope he gets the biggest payday possible. If averaging 20 and 11 this year isn't putting him on any first round draft boards, then staying another year probably won't help him. Go into the draft, and then go to Europe if you don't like the deal. Or into the NBDL if you think there's a realistic chance of making the leap from there.

But every year there's a flyer pick, a head scratcher, and a couple of undrafted guys that work out well in the right team situation. Maybe Dedric will be one of these.

That's low end, worst case estimate though.

He'd easily grab a deal worth $100K overseas.

IMO

Oh I know...just saying, you have the blowhards like Vitale acting like it's a tragedy for a guy to declare and not get drafted...dude, his life isn't over...he just has to actually do what us normal folks do and pay for his own school...and a former player may not even have to pay full tuition...I know Calipari did the thing where he tried to get all ex-players back in the fold to finish their education...I know Bobby Parks took advantage.

Europe is not his dream and with the fat check his pops is collecting now he really has on reason to run away to do a money grab.

So if he is not going NBA he likely stays.

The two things you can greatly improve physically with time is strength and weight. These are the two areas if Dedric can improve he could get drafted and actually have a position when he gets into the league.

Why go play in the NBDL where it is a much worse grind and likely not have as much time to fix your deficiencies.
