Man, that's pretty harsh. I hope JMU won't let a bad situation linger like they've done in the past at times, but I think you've got to give the guy a full recruiting cycle to develop some pitchers. From everything I've read, he's well regarded out in the hinterlands, so I'm still cautiously optimistic that we'll see a nice turnaround in the next couple of years. I guess the red flag to me will be if he doesn't appear to be out recruiting the middle-of the-pack CAA teams after a few years. I'm not able to judge that, but I imagine there are some others on here that can.

I admit to having lost patience with the direction of the baseball program. I love college ball, and there's no reason JMU can't be doing what the women's softball team is doing. When UVA hired their current HC their program literally took off and left us in the dust. It chaps my competitive a** every time I think about how JB let Spanky continue season after mediocre season, and yet JB pulled the plug on HC's of other sports (like softball) when the results were't there. I wish Ike nothing but the best, but I want to see results.

2016: 24-31 (13-11 CAA)
2017: 24-27 (7-17 CAA)

Overall a draw from last year, no discernible progress. CAA play was worse, OOC play was better. Not making the tournament probably leads to a worse season IMO.

We need to bring in some better pitching if we want to begin to get out of this slump.

Is it true or not, that about the time we started our conference play we had four pitchers with arm problems? I thought that information was reported on this forum about two months ago, but didn't know if it had any legs.

RE: JMU Baseball
This season was a disappointment for me. Last year I felt like the team exceeded my expectations. Finishing at the bottom of the CAA is unacceptable for a program with the facilities and financial support JMU baseball receives. It is not difficult to recruit good baseball talent to JMU. There is no reason why JMU should not be in the top 3 of the CAA every year.

If next years record looks similar to this years record, I am no longer going to feel Ike was a good hire.

I agree. Still no notable improvement after three years and it's not a good sign.

This is true. They had very little pitching for a good while. Similar arm problems if I recall.

Giving him a "full cycle" as you describe is exactly what could/ likely will result in a "bad situation lingering."

VT fired their BB coach. Mike Barber's article listed possible candidates from VCU, ODU, and Ike.

That shows the respect that Ike garners in baseball circles in the state of VA. I doubt he is a serious candidate based on last 2 years at JMU.....But I still like the hire. If he can win at VMI he can win at JMU.

If VT can get the 'right' hire they have a very high ceiling for baseball.

Side note from the world of D1 college baseball...

...the Miami Hurricanes have a NCAAT appearance streak of 44 straight years. Simply amazing. Sitting at 28-26 overall and a RPI of 47 entering this week's ACCT, they may have to win it to advance and keep that impressive streak alive.

RE: JMU Baseball
When coaches get hired and immediately turn things around it is usually because they inherited under performing talent. I don't think we had a lot of high end talent at JMU two years ago. I think allowing a full recruiting cycle makes a lot of sense but if next year looks the same as this year or worse I would think year 4 better be special.

OT:
U Miami (FL) baseball didn't make the playoffs which ends their NCAA record streak of 44 straight NCAA Baseball Tournaments. The 44 consecutive years of postseason berths by Miami baseball represented the longest active NCAA postseason streak for any collegiate sport.

Florida State is the new leader for consecutive postseason berths as they made this year's tournament for their 40th consecutive appearance.

RE: JMU Baseball
OT: Always like to see the "little guy" pull off the big upset. Davidson (a 4-seed) won the NCAAT regional at UNCheat. LOL! They defeated the Tar Holes twice along with a win over 2-seed Fla Gulf Coast mixed in as well. Davidson's pitching staff gave up a total of 6 runs across their 3 wins to advance. They will travel to Texas for a Super Regional as Houston and Texas A&M will face off today at UH. A&M is in the driver's seat with 0 losses (Cougs has 1 loss and must beat A&M twice).

Edit note: also, our "friends" at Soft Houston State (a 3-seed) took down home-standing Texas Tech twice to advance to a SR. They defeated 2-seed Arizona twice and then did the double act on TTU. They'll face the winner of tonight's Auburn at F$U game in the SR's.
