"Former Notre Dame special teams analyst Marty Biagi is North Texas new special teams coordinator, a source close to the situation confirmed to the Denton Record-Chronicle on Thursday morning.

UNT is expected to announce the hire officially early next week, a school spokesman said.

Biagi spent one season at Notre Dame. He served as the cornerbacks coach at South Dakota the previous year.

The former kicker and punter at Marshall made a name for himself as a special teams coach during three seasons at Southern University from 2012-14. Biagi was the Jaguars special teams coordinator in 2014, when they were the top scoring special teams unit in college football."

He was our starting punter in 2005 (as a freshman was on the C-USA All-Freshman Team) and 2007 (as a junior). He actually worked with the coaches breaking down film in his spare time and knew he wanted to go the coaching route. He actually graduated early and decided to hang up the cleats after his junior year of athletic eligibility and became a grad assistant in 2008 at Arkansas.

He was always an intelligent kid destined for coaching. He's one that took his love of the game and the opportunities afforded him into a career. I'll give you an A on the hire.
