I'm cautiously optimistic. 10 years is a LONG time. 03-drunk

Initially I'd say it's a good thing-it's created new jobs and quite a bit of reputable collegiate programs have dealings with learfield.

Can't speak if this would effect Ray but our PxP guy Matt stolz is still around

Folks on staff seem pretty excited. It is above my head, as well, but it looks to be the direction a lot of programs are going.

Would someone explain what it is? I assume it has something to do with radio since it's media. I don't have a clue.

Learfield is a company that manages multimedia and broadcasting rights for different sports programs and schools.

Essentially, they take control of management of a school's broadcast team. There's a downside and an upside. The upside is that Athletic Departments no longer have to focus on the broadcasting side of things, and it creates a bunch of new jobs in the area since Learfield operates with a larger staff.

The down side is really up to the contract a school has regarding its on air talent. Some schools allow Learfield to take control of their on air talent, others retain control. AState retained control of our Play by play guy, so Learfield can't hire and fire him.

From what I've been told, they also guarantee a certain amount of revenue from sponsorships every year. That revenue depends on the school.

Ya, I also got the impression that they would be helping generate a lot of revenue through sponsorships, promotions, etc.

Correct.

As long as you guys maintain some control, generally it's a good deal to work with Learfied.

Just don't do what Arkansas did and sell your soul to IMG.
