RE: Today is the day, free at last...
And so we embark on another 4 years in which 25 percent of the country is convinced a new era of America is upon us, 25 percent are convinced that the entire country has gone to hell and will quietly go into their holes and hope they can survive the coming apocalypse, while the other 50 percent just don't care anymore.

I expect him to flop, but I expect almost every sitting President to flop these days. We'll see.

You actually have 40 minutes left. All the ceremony stuff starts at 9:30 when Trump arrives for tea.

Trump made a lot of promises. He has a lot to live up to. I'll give the guy a chance in office before making a personal judgement.

The Obama years were pretty good for me too. Made a pretty decent living, my house doubled in value, the stock market exploded.

The way usmbacker obsessively posts about him, life must have been hard for him the last 8 years and he's looking for a scapegoat. Must not have mirrors in his house because any failings someone has the last 5-6 years are their own.

Ultimately it's the individual that creates their own success. However, from a macroeconomic perspective, a lot of people were hurt and basically pushed out of the global market by some of his policies.

I generally like him has a person, he can be a huge force within the African American community now that he has more time to do so.

Yes, and it ballooned under NAFTA. I understand the purpose of it was to give Americans more purchasing power, but what good does that do when you're unemployed?

I'll give you smudge the "admire him for fighting for his beliefs"..

But the rest of it? NO...

Dignity? Hell no.. how many 'apology' tours did he make?

Moderate? Hell, the only reason he did anything as a moderate, was precisely because Congress held their ground most times.

The unemployment rate post NAFTA has been better than most periods in American history. Basically only the WWII and post WWII years were consistently lower.

RE: Today is the day, free at last...
Despite opposing Obama on about 75% of his policies...I thought in general he carried himself well and represented the office of POTUS with the respect it deserves. I am not unhappy to see him be replaced...but...have very little anticipation that Trump will be a much better. I hope he will at least not make a constant ass out of himself and honor the office to which he has been elected with dignity and professionalism. If he surrounds himself with competent people..and listens to them..he will be fine. If he continues the trend of tweeting at 2am? It is going to be embarrassing.

Trumps election is the direct the result of 8 years of radical leftists getting away with whatever nonsense they could under the Obama administration. I submit that if Trump governs like Obama and allows the right to run amok in an equal fashion? The blowback will come. My advice to Mr. Trump would be to stand firm on your major platforms but make a genuine attempt to govern from the center as much as possible. Stop and "think" before you open your mouth...and stay the hell off Twitter.

I wish Mr. Trump success and hope in 4 years he is worth of my vote.

Well...that's not directly because of NAFTA. There are many external factors that affect the unemployment rate. Labor participation is just as important and is more of a true indicator of the economy's health. It's been trending downward since around 2005, less money has flown into the government and is giving us insurmountable debt.
