Had a nice conversation yesterday with Tulsa athletic director Derrick Gragg and his thoughts on a G5-only playoff and how he sees Tulsa and the American Athletic Conference's role in the power structure. Great guy who I go back a few years with to his days as AD at Eastern Michigan. Here is the story in today's Enid (Okla.) News & Eagle.

I get it the AAC doesn't come close to earning $$$ nowhere near what the self-proclaimed p5 make but I must say, the P6 stickers on the helmets was definitely a great chess move by the AAC.

And we never will. But we can make alot more than we do now---and we can trim the gap between us that P5. Im thinking about 50% of P5 earnings is probably our ceiling.

THIS. The only ones who seem riled up are other G5 fans. There's a little more to the argument than stickers. Tv ratings, attendance, budgets, and facilities are just some of the areas where the league has separated itself from the other G5s. Over half the league spent time in a major conference.

Look, do I think the P5 is going to open the door to the AAC? I doubt it. Might it eventually result in a bigger paycheck and some kind of "middle tier" identity for the AAC---yeah, I think it could.
