CAA title game to air on CBSSN
CBS Sports Network will carry the CAA men's basketball championship game on 3/6 at 7pm. Looks like just a one off deal. Was announced today.

At least they found some national outlet. I was beginning to think that it was going to be carried by American Sports Network, or only on ESPN3.

So no semi-final national coverage this year?

Do you guys get that channel in the Charleston area? I am just expecting to attend the sessions that W&M is in and then catch some of the other session on TV, if that is an option. Still in the planning stage of how many of us are coming and this is a factor. No TV probably means a few more come to the arena.

I would think nationally that the ESPN networks are #1 for college basketball, then probably FSN and NBCSN are about equal for second. I don't know many cable networks that even carry CBS Sports Network. For example, it was easy to watch the UNCW/Hofstra championship game. The game was a classic, but painful for me since W&M wasn't in it. For me, I also cut the cord to cable about 5 months ago, so even Comcast Sports Network is an issue for me right now.

RE: CAA title game to air on CBSSN
Whenever CofC plays, those games will likely air on WMMP (MyTV Charleston), which is on the local cable and satellite basic packages. They've carried the quarterfinals CofC has played in the last two seasons along with most of CofC's regular season CSN games.

But for the other games you'd probably have to go to a bar nearby that gets the sports package (there's a Buffalo Wild Wings and a bar called the SportsBook within a mile of the arena) or watch at the Coliseum.

Comcast carries both channels in Charleston. Need the sports package to watch. Not sure about other carriers.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. It at least answers the question of coverage of COC games which I was curious about.

Well that's a huge bummer. This channel is a pain in the rear to get for me. I hope this is not a sign of things to come

RE: CAA title game to air on CBSSN
The biggest problem I have with CBSSN televising the game is the fact that they haven't shown any of our games on their network all season.

So none of their announcers will have any feel for the two teams other than speaking to SID's and reading press notes.

Most announcers are independent contractors these days who work for multiple outlets. It wouldn't be surprising if CBS brings in a guy like Blaine Taylor to do the CC for the game. But with so few CAA games on TV this year, I don't even know who the league's regular announcers are.

I didn't love NBCSN but I feel like it was a much better situation than the new one. And my apartment has CBSSN and not NBCSN. Hopefully it's at least more lucrative for the conference

But at least NBCSN televised our regular season games, so it felt like OUR network.

The title game on CBSSN but none during the season feels like their doing us a favor.

RE: CAA title game to air on CBSSN
NBCSN wasn't getting good ratings for these games. They don't draw much better for A-10 either. The highest rated A-10 game this weekend for them (they had 5 games) was UMass/VCU with 76,000.

Yep. 5 A-10 games in 2 days. The entire CAA package was 10 games, usually. Plus, NBCSN signed the package when teams like VCU, GMU, and ODU were still in the league.

The highest rated CAA games NBCSN were during the 2014 Winter Olympics when they had so much coverage on that network and took a break to carry a couple games. A Delaware-Towson game that year drew 148,000 viewers.

Their schedule was also heavily backloaded. Other than the MSU-NU game (which drew 196K, the highest rated NBCSN CAA game), they didn't have a game prior to Feb. 6 last year. The championship between UNCW-Hofstra last year drew 117,000 there, but it was outrated by over 50K by the Green Bay/Valpo Horizon semi on ESPNU.

The UNCW Hofstra game was WAY better. It had 2 really good teams and was a good game.

Mid major teams don't bring in big ratings on any channel. The A-10 doesn't bring in big viewship either. That's not the reason why NBCSN and the CAA parted ways.

No matter who we sign up with, our games won't get any ratings worth discussing. No one across the country cares that much about mid major hoops. Besides, there are just too many damn games on TV anyway. They all start to all look the same.

I swear some of you southern fans are quite delusional when it comes to who you think cares about our games on TV.

Every year I hear many of you complain about attendance figures because "how it looks on TV." No one is watching! The only ones who do are alums, parents and maybe recruits.

Casual fans are not watching our games on Comcast, MASN, SNY or the like. Fans Power 5 conference areas aren't watching either.

Ratings don't mean squat for us.

That's the Northeast perspective. From someone who spent 23 years in Mass and the last 16 in NC, people in the South DO care about college hoops. In the NE it's an afterthought. Not the case down here.

It's not about caring about college hoops Seahawkhoops. That's not the point I'm making. Trust me, I know full well the south cares more about college sports than pro sports.

It's all about the realization that college hoops ratings for mid major basketball will always be low. Don't care if you have a packed and raucous arena or not.

Ratings or not, have you seen the games they've been showing on TV? We have more to offer than many of the lower level P5 and mid-majors they are showing.

I have, watched at least a dozen games on cbssportsnetwork this season. They are always very good at doing their homework no matter the level of game they are are showing. I think they do a better job than nbcs and it was obvious to the most casual fan they were divorcing us. I hope this is a prelude to them televising regular season games in the future for the CAA. We all have opinions but that is mine
