It's fun to imagine landing a big name like that, but the reality is WMU will probably grab another up-and-comer. The MAC is the cradle of coaches, not the rocking chair.
Of course we can pay. As long as you keep saying "MAC is the cradle of coaches" it will remain that way. Demand more BroncoPhilly. Demand more.
Hey, if Kathy is really into wheeling and dealing she might be able to finagle something. For example, propose a deal to LSU AD-they're currently paying Coach Miles something like $ 1.5 Million/year in termination costs. Those continue until Miles accepts a new job. Propose to LSU that for $ 800k/year from them, we'll hire Les and take him off your hands!
Add their $ 800 to ours and maybe we have enough to attract a top coach like him? We need to execute deals like Trump, not like John Kerry!
I believe I read somewhere already that is the way his termination agreement is worded. He is paid $2 million a year or whatever it is from LSU and any money earned from coaching elsewhere reduces the $2 million dollar for dollar. So essentially, unless he gets a head coaching job paying him more than what LSU is paying him annually, his take home pay will not change. I'm not saying he is coming, but that does kind of take the money hurdle out of the way for him at least, which can't hurt.

I read somewhere that Minnesota tried to get Miles on the 'cheap'. They offered $600,000 per year knowing he'd blow town after a year or two. He was insulted and walked away. I've google this crap so much over the past 5 days I can't find the link though.

So promise to pay him, but don't?

Actually no. It means, unless we pay him more that 2 million per year he is working for free, which tends to take the motivation out of the job for most people.

Exactly. Why come to WMU and pick up all the headaches a HC encounters for nothing-when you can sit at home in a rocking chair, imbibing your favorite beverage and earn the same money? Miles is a no-go, wasted effort talking about him.

Yes, I agree. He's not going to do it in a prove-yourself manner in a G5, unless he sees a Goldmine for success... or at a big University with a big budget not on him but to pay his Coordinators a lot to get the very best to ensure success, etc. He's wanting to do what he loves as he says, but I think he's going to want to use his situation to get well-paid OC/DC & assistants at a place that has a runway for success so he can get back in the game.
I don't think he'd rule out a G5 -- as there can be a G5 any year that given the right circumstances would be worth the jump (although slim; but he's not going to say that on national TV).
