Don't know how some of those teams can be ranked higher than Coastal.

How do the Coastal fans feel about that ranking? Just curious.

meh.

I think we should have been higher but also know that these things are typically more popularity contests than anything else. I would have expected the defending national champ to be at least top 20, if not top 10 but pre-season polls mean nothing.

Agree. They look at who you kept, who you lost, and who you signed, and guess. What you typically don't see is a team who lost plenty of pitching get placed very high. The Cajuns and Coastal both brought back experienced staffs putting them high. I think (not positive) the Cajuns returned more of their fielders and main offensive players as well as having a pretty good signing class to fill holes.

There's also a reason most of the "official" RPI numbers don't come out until a third of the season is completed.

They probably ranked Texas because they brought their fences in. That makes The Disch field fences shorter than Bobcat Ballpark now. Maybe they're going to have a lineup full of HR hitters this year.

Why did they do this?

My guess would be that they didn't hit many home runs and it was easier than recruiting better. :-)

Augie Garrido, the king of smallball, is gone.

Dish-Faulk has always been notoriously pitcher-friendly. I don't know much about the new head coach up there yet, but I'm guessing his coaching style is significantly different from Augie's. Augie loved the huge park.

I don't know about huge. Only the left field line was 10 feet further than at TXST. I do know that they tailored that artificial turf to be advantageous to their small ball game.
340-400-325 (TXST 330-404-330)
I think they only made the alleys shorter but wouldn't that, by virtue of design, make CF shorter? (I don't know for sure.) That can be a game changer.

They also added a wall in front of the LF bullpen.

405 to the power alleys though, which is what they are shortening. That's pretty deep.

I think the HR figures in that ballpark over the years tell the story. For the most part, you have to keep it down the lines to get it out.

Wow... Never realized that about the power alleys. As a former player who played outfield, had good power, but was... let's say 'not a triples threat', I would take one look at a stadium like that and pay for my own ticket back home if that's what it took to get me out of there.

Texas got ranked high because people see the name and assume good. The football team started ranked and couldn't even make a bowl game. Last years baseball team started ranked and ended up short. This years basketball team started ranked and looked where they are...

After getting beat by TCU on their home court for the first time in 30 years last night they had to indefinitely suspend Tevin Mack today too.

Hopefully that whole athletic department can continue to struggle like they have been the last few years and their perception will start to slide just a little. Probably just wishful thinking though.

I don't see the dimensions anywhere to verify but I don't think so.

I feel like they're 375 based off memory, and I've been like 100 times over the past 3 years....

Yeah, age is getting to my brain. I went through about 800 baseball pictures I took (2009-13) and not one shows the power alley signage. (Man I sure miss going).

I asked on Twitter but got no responses. 375 sounds more accurate.
