Baptist Church to have lesbian couple as co-pastors
Seems weird that a gay couple would be pastoring a baptist church. I get it that not all baptist organizations are conservative, but you'd think this would be happening at at one of the mainstream protestant churches vs a baptist one.

Interesting. Even though the American Baptist Convention is generally quite liberal, I don't think that it has approved of gay marriage as a denomination. That said, baptist churches are congregational, i.e., each individual church can make its own decisions about many doctrinal matters.

That's one of the worst examples of trolling I've seen on this forum, and you set the bar pretty high on trolling.

Lots of different types of Baptists, and lots of independent Baptist churches that do not have any affiliation with a convention or organization.

Baptist is just a word, anyone can be a "baptist" church (think Westboro).

This church appears to be affiliated with the American Baptist Org (which is more liberal, but not quite this liberal) and Alliance of Baptists (which is a organization that supports what the church is doing).

It would not surprise me to see this happening more in the future.

Well I suppose it's better than bullying an existing church...

RE: Baptist Church to have lesbian couple as co-pastors
I expect within the next 5 years the United Methodist Church will no longer be United. Either a portion of the American Church splits off and allows gay ministers or they do a de facto split and allow churches to choose whether to accept gay ministers.

They're trying to figure out a structure that allows the latter in order to avoid a split. The African and Asian churches, a growing part of the United Methodists, are strongly opposed to gay ministers. Most of the South is as well. Most of the North wants all of the church to accept gay ministers. Many churches have joined the Reconciling Ministries (liberal) or the Confessing Movement (conservative).

Funny I thought the fruits of the Reformation was the end to selling indulgences and dozens of other abuses of the faith by Roman Catholics.

The issue that the UMC is fascinating to me as an outsider who's just following the story. I think you are right and that at this point a schism is unavoidable.

The Anglican's (Episcopalian) churches may schism over this too. I know awhile ago some churches in the first world tried to change dioceses and have their church under a conservative bishop. I think it all kicked off when a gay bishop was given a diocese to manage in New Hampshire.

The Episcopalian situation is maddening. Put 20 Episcopalians in a room and you'll get 20 points of view that are all equally "valid." Different parishes in the same diocese can sometimes be radically different. My wife is an Episcopalian and I went to church with her a few times when I was exploring the Faith after 10 years away from it. I couldn't stay because I had no clear idea on what they believed as a church.

RE: Baptist Church to have lesbian couple as co-pastors
You can expect a continued growth of apostasy and rejection of the doctrines of the bible in the coming years. The bible makes clear the churches will become more and more corrupted just before the end of the church age.

2 Tim 4:3
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound doctrine. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

Many people put their faith in a denomination instead of Christ and the Word of God. So few of them are really reading the bible. They want to live their life the way they see fit and have a friendly preacher tell them its ok as long as they attend service and give a few dollars.

As an United Methodist, I find the church to be maddening. I am leaning more and more to Catholicism or Orthodox.

My mother was steamed when the United Methodist Women invited Hillary to talk.
