Speaking broadly, I'd rather UC take the risk on student athletes on the academic side rather than those that have character or legal issues (not speaking of partial qualifiers here either). From what I've read so far, the issues are academic ones. UC has excellent people, services, and facilities to help those willing to do the classroom work.
But so does OSU. Sometimes though, the change of scenery can be a wake-up call and the second chance yields a great athletic career with at least acceptable academic performance. Not knowing specifics, it's exciting to think about a fresh start on the field and in the classroom for such a gifted student athlete. It would seem he has the ability to be a game changer--making the players around him all look better because of his talent. Excellent QB performance has yielded a quick turnaround for several AAC programs. It's our turn.
I am all for taking academic projects if the staff believes the guy fits the team and has the work ethic. Sometimes college is a big shock for an 18 year old academically. I struggled my in my 2nd quarter at UC and it took that academic probation shock to kick me into a higher gear. It's not just athletes that struggle to adapt, and they are lucky that they get far more resources than the common student to turn it around.
Agreed. I have no issue with taking on academic issue kids. UC put me in Univ College (total waste of time which i hear no longer exists) and academic probation after i basically goofed off for a quarter.
Considering the SIZABLE resources the team has they can really help a kid out. Much more so than us mere students that struggled. They're young, ish happens. Academic issues seems like the least of what can happen.
Less comfy with other issues.

So, there's a chance this guy ends up here in the summer. Meaning he can make it to higher ground and learn the playbook, practice with the team, compete for the job.
This is all assuming everything goes as its being reported now, I'm still a tad skeptical until he actually gets to UC.

School can be hard. I admit I had some difficulty at times. But I never had an issue resisting the temptation to rape and pillage, or break phones. Those are the issues I might be concerned about.
Torrance Gibson can play some school, then play for us.

Call me pessimistic, but I have a feeling a lot will change between now and the time when he could enroll at UC. If he isn't coming right now, I would bet it won't happen.

A lot of people were throwing Columbus State out there, but I don't think there's any confirmation he's actually going there (at least that I heard). In the Nashville Sports Radio interview that was posted above, the guy just said "Columbus State or somewhere like that".

No confirmation just yet. That bit of conversation is all we got at the moment. I'll be much MUCH more certain if Gibson is the one actually saying these things.

Dave Biddle. He is their Tim Adams.
Dave Biddle is married to my next door neighbor's daughter. I've met him, went to his wedding and he is a straight shooter. His degree is in journalism and he worked for Bucknuts, which was bought out by 247. I think he's a native of Beavercreek, OH.

On the right side of ESPN.com (looks official to me):
Austin Ward
ESPN Staff Writer
Former Ohio State wide receiver Torrance Gibson has committed to joining Luke Fickell at Cincinnati and will return to playing quarterback. After his two years with the Buckeyes didn't work out following a redshirt year and a university-issued suspension, Gibson has enrolled at Cincinnati State to get an associate's degree that could make him eligible this season. "I'm confident about what is happening in the Queen City," Gibson told ESPN. "I'm just ready to roll."

Holy ****.....big time get!
I liked the Fickell hire from the start but he is exceeding every expectation I had to this point.

RE: Thoughts on Torrance Gibson?
From a running game perspective this is an incredible upgrade, he will immediately make Mike Boone better as well...unfortunately the jury is till very much out on if he can be a solid passer as well, and judging by literally every offense Denbrock has run, he'll need to be that as well.
He's also a lefty, which complicates things for receivers a bit.

He was redshirted at OSU, so I assume he would be a RS Soph.

Tyler Cogswell and Carter Jacobs are former teammates of Gibsons, could lead to a pipeline for the near future for us.

Still wish we would've been able to get Isaiah McKenzie too. That's a great school to set an anchor at in Florida. Three kids from Heritage and three (four if Mallory ends up coming back) from IMG definitely doesn't hurt.
