RE: 1/9/2017 Polls
I am in the best ever team crowd as well. There have been better defenses at JMU but by years end, this years was pretty dang good. Our offense was off the charts good and special teams were maybe a tad better than the 2008 Scotty M. unit. Altogether, this team was amazing.

RE: 1/9/2017 Polls
The 1995 Dukes roster included Tony Booth, Mike Crawley, Macy Brooks, and Ed Perry.
That was the most talented team in JMU history, unfortunately we had the absolute worst coach in the history of football.
To be fair - if you go back to the late 80's and early 90's - we had a schedules that included multiple current FBS teams in the same season (VA Tech, Navy, App State, Georgia Southern, Marshall, Troy, UCONN, UMASS, others). It is hard to compare that relative talent to what we have today.

I would argue that overall talent level in college football has greatly increased over the past 20-30 years as has the game style. In addition, most of those teams are now FBS, but were not at the time so the statement on talent is somewhat irrelevant.

No doubt our team was talented entering the 1995 season. We were preseason #3 in the country. When we lost Jim Pletcher as D-coordinator and DT Marcus Cutino from the 1994 team, we lost our capability to defeat Delaware. Wood couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, and our OC was a joke! We should've been at least a 10-1 team that year and we barely made the playoffs at 8-3. We lost to McNeese State, Delaware and the f'n Spatters (the spatters scored like 20 points in the last 4 minutes to beat us by 1). Every conference win was won on the last drive with a throw to Jay Jones, Ed Perry or Macy Brooks. We lost to App in the playoffs. I remember having to block Dexter Coakley in that game. He was fast.

Absolutely no doubt whatsoever the Dukes were and are the best.
take out the last 30 seconds of the game, ie - major garbage time, and see above.
no one within one score of us.
The only two games where our opponents had the ball with a chance to tie or win late were W&M and Richmond. Against W&M, leading by 7 with W&M driving, Taylor had an INT in the end zone and then Khalid broke the long one to put us up by 14. Verses Richmond we scored to take the lead with about a minute and a half left and then held them to a four and out. Khalid again had a late TD to put us up by two scores.
As far as I can see, the only times we trailed vs. FCS in the 4th were to Richmond and Maine (down 20-17 at the start). Against Maine we scored an early TD in the 4th to take the lead and got another TD later to win by 31-20.
