Theory on tempo of current search...
Since PJ's salary of 800k was significantly subsidized by donor dollars... KB likely has a larger pool of individuals to get on board when dealing with the specifics of the kind of salaries to be offered... So many hands in the cookie jar... not to mention we are currently going through a President search... which likely makes it difficult for some of these same donors to loosen the check book as the future fabric of the athletic department will be dependent on the vision of the next President...

Just a damn perfect storm... unbelievable.

We need to remember that many of these donors were stepping up because of their relationship with PJ. Don't be surprised if the next coach is paid less than $800k.

Depends on who it is. I'm sure they'd pay top dollar for Miles.. others not as much but after tasting the sweet taste of victory the checkbook will be open to those deserving.

RE: Theory on tempo of current search...
PJs salary without the booster support would've been around 500K likely. That's about what we paid him when he started (I'm rounding a bit I know).

So we should use that as a base. We also know he needs to give 600K back to the university, so if you spread that over 4 seasons that's 150K. So we know we have a base likely of 650K for the next coach before booster support. My guess is the next coach (unless it ends up being a Miles or someone that large...which I doubt), will get a salary around the 700K mark, knowing that if they perform they have a million dollar job in two years.

For a 1-AA head coach, that's a hefty raise.....for a P5 coordinator that's likely a comfortable bump...with a much larger bump possible. For a P5 assistant...that's a hefty jump.

FWIW, I read that Minnie Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha will be paying for the buyout as part of Fleck's new contract.

I don't care how long the search takes, just that we don't end up with another "It's all about meeeeee" coach who gets easily distracted by shiny objects, whether women or other HC jobs.

If the next coach is as successful as Fleck, he will also be distracted by another HC job and will be gone in a few years.

It has happened at NIU, UT, and CMU. It will likely happen at WMU.

The reward for winning the MAC is losing your coach to a higher paying program. It has been that way for generations.

Exactly. If the next coach leaves us better than he found us, that would be great. Our last two coaches did that, and hopefully the next one will.

Hopefully, they'll include this "Ode to PJ Fleck" amongst the tunes:

Dang...that resume alone would fire up a fan base. I'd be totally good with this cat.

RE: Theory on tempo of current search...
Cristobal makes $525K and Scott makes $400K. If KB is going after them, she'll have to come in at $750K and up. That means the donors are sticking with her, which is great for our future.
