RE: Message Board Knucklehead Poll on New Head Coach
Lots of good candidates out there, but two that have really impressed me by their performance as head coaches and their longevity as winners are:

1. Mike Houston, HC at James Madison
2. Chris Klieman, HC at NDSU

Both these guys have a demonstrated record as winners, good recruiters, exciting communicators and dynamism. They have a record as HEAD COACHES, not just assistants. And they are both affordable to a mid-major like WMU. Both could be secured by $ 800,00.00 - $ 1 Million offers plus competitive salaries for their staffs.

I went with Mike Houston. I'm not sure Les Miles can relate to our current players. Houston seems like the closest thing to outsider continuity.

I want my vote back... I was on the fence with Les and Houston... I want to switch to Houston...

Those are my Top 2 as well. I think either would be great for different reasons - big, proven name and splash hire (Miles) or another energetic up-and-coming great coach (Houston).

I voted Manning because I have no clue what I'm talking about. In Kathy/Dunn I trust.

Mike Houston or Chris Klieman. These two should be top priority while exploring the Les Miles option.

I would be happy with either of those two. I think Ferris St coach would work too.

Mike Houston reminds me way to much of Brian Kelly - successful everywhere he went for 1-3 years... but with everyone elses recruits. Look at him now. Going to be fired next year.

I would say Miles just because it would be a splash and keep the fan base excited. But I think its a pipe dream anyway. Houston or Klieman would be solid hires.

Zero of those options will get the job.

It won't be D2 coach. This is a Cotton Bowl program Fleck or no Fleck. P5 assistant or good G5 coach will defect. My guess is Miles will be talked too if he decides to agree to interview. Nothing to lose by talking to the guy has contacts nationwide.

How about:

HC: Peyton Manning - can you imagine the QB prospects that would come?
OC: Mike Houston
DC: Pepper Johnson
QB Coach: Zach Terrell
RB Coach: Wheatley/Hart/Biakabatuka
ST: Wenger
Recruiting Coordinator: Les Miles

RE: Message Board Knucklehead Poll on New Head Coach
I don't know who it is going to be, but because of PJ taking half our 17' class with him, it makes me want to lean towards a guy that could pull together a good, solid, late class like Wheatley or Cristobal. My issue with the successful lower level coaches is the current locker room. That is why a guy like Miles is probably most ideal.

The current locker room is the most important thing when all is said and done. We have a very good football team. Quite a bit of talent left. We need a guy that will resonate with them. We can't have a guy like Houston coming in and driving off players like PJ did when he came in there. We are far beyond a rebuild. We need a guy that can come in and maintain harmony, make the players that are there believe in him, that he can take them to another MAC championship. That will take a guy with some experience and credibility. Not sure a FCS coach does that.

Not enough star quality for me. Seems like we could afford more than this.

I agree with almost every one of your points. I do think that an FCS coach coming in with a 2016 National Championship in his pocket and the kind of passion that Houston seems to have would probably satisfy those concerns. I specifically agree that the players in the locker room need to be the priority in the short-term. I think they could get behind him. He is used to coming into programs with an existing nucleus of players. Hopefully the recent championship would be enough to hold onto a few of the wavering recruits and give him this season to tab a strong recruiter for his staff.
