$4 million renovations for Tudor Fieldhouse
http://www.chron.com/sports/rice/article...840541.php

Was wondering about this last night when I saw the gated-off area. They're taking the old swimming pool and back of what used to be Autry Court but is now mostly unused old recreational gym space. And they're creating much-needed lockerrooms and lounges for golf, track and field and soccer. Plus perhaps some space will be used for other unnamed future renovations.

Wasted space for 7 years... You think the University would let this much usable space sit wasted anywhere on the academic side of campus if it only took a measly $4 million to make it useful. Glad it's finally getting done.

Suggestion :

Put some of that money toward fixing the side court seats that are not
stable. For the $20 million plus spent to refurbish Tudor Fieldhouse the seats should not move every time someone in the next row or beside you sits down or changes their posture.

This may seem minor but makes the seating seem cheap and is very uncomfortable and distracting.

Why was this not rectified
by a punch list after the refurb ?

Comments ?

It's because they fold in when it's not gameday. But yes I agree it's annoying.

What do you mean, "wasted space"? One of the old racquetball courts was cthrock's office for years!

One of those racquetball courts is still the Rice Bands' music storage.
Wasted space now is the second floor behind the R-Room, what used to be the football offices.

The pool space was going to be a band hall, but a donation research firm brought in by the administration determined that The MOB could not assemble the donors necessary to build it out, under the model the administration wanted to use.
