RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
Busy weekend, but some different golfers are out there.

The major PGA event this weekend is the WGC Match Play event, which is Kent-free. Hughes is the highest ranked golfer (#113) on the OWGR, but way below the Top 64 needed to make the cut for this event.

So, the PGA has a secondary event - the Puerto Rico Open. Here it's Ben Curtis playing, he shot a one over and sits 3 shots below the cut line after one round.

The web.com tour is in Louisiana. Both Corey Conners (5 under, Tied for 12th) and Ryan Yip (4 under, tied for 22nd) had good first rounds.

Ben Curtis will miss the cut in Puerto Rico by four strokes.

Yip and Conners will make the cut in Louisiana. Yip is tied for 9th heading into the weekend, shooting a solid 68 today. He really needs a good tournament because it's been rough sledding so far this year for Yip and he wants to keep a high position when they reorder the priority list in a few tournaments. Conners is tied for 36th, given up a lot of ground because of 3 bogies on the last 7 holes.

Yip put together four good rounds and finished tied for 9th, earning $12K. This is important because Yip hadn't made a cut so far this season and was in danger of ending up at the bottom of the list during the reorder and not being able to play web.com events. This event moves him up the money list to 71st.

Conners had a very good final round and finished tied for 45th. He has earned $56K so far this year and is 14th on the money list.

Decent day for Hughes today - he is -2 and in 41st place made the cut at Shell Houston Open

Hughes missed the cut at the Masters. He didn't play well, but he did get to play in the Masters. Hopefully, he'll continue the success he's had so far going into the spring/summer season.

Both Mackenzie Hughes and Ben Curtis playing the Texas Valero Open this weekend in San Antonio. Ben is a former champion here (2012).

Dollars to donuts, Ben won't make the cut.

Half the field won't make the cut. No reason to keep dumping on Ben. Thousands of really good golfers aren't even good enough to get in the field, and this isn't a prime tour event. Just playing on tour is quite an accomplishment. Most top college players never do.
