Not entirely the same situation----Unlike Campbell, Fleck stuck around long enough to win a MAC championship and coach in a New Year Day Bowl (although played on a Monday). Unlike Campbell, he did not desert his team early before their season was completed and did not cost them a MACC like Campbell probably did-----big difference.

Yup, the way the Minnesota hire went down it appears he put them on hold until after the bowl, then negotiated

This from the WMU board:

We went from having a full class of 25 commits with with 3 early enrollees for a total of 28 commits for 2017. As I type this, we have had 6 flip to Minn, 2 more offered by Minn and will likely flip soon. and 6 more re-open their recruiting.

That leaves 14 verbals left in the class with only 2 saying they are still committed officially.

We have 24 days until signing day, which means each day it takes Kathy to find a replacement, the harder it will be to fill this class.

Has WMU announced a new coach?

It was kind of Fleck to stick around until after the bowl game but leaving this late hurts WMU's recruiting. I wonder how Fleck's rtb recruits will blend with the current Gopher players? Will he do a home-and-home with WMU? I wonder if the Broncos will stay in-house and hire one of their coordinators or take their time and screen multiple candidates?

I;m sure you know this, but I'm assuming he is talking about leaving late under and existing contract and will be taking recruits and probably a lot of coaches with him. May also be taking some other guys that have a redshirt left for the period the year they have to sit out. Not sure many will leave and give up a year of eligibility. Depends on how they see their prospects at WMU going forward. Tough act to follow at WMU. Try to imitate what he did even if it is an internal hire and it will probably fall with a resounding thud. Highly unlikely they find someone that will have the same success. If they do, we should fire MOB and hire their guy.
