I'll happily be conference mates with Stookey57. It's people like NYC Native that I can do without. Denigrating our academics is not a good look. We are a victim of a biased USNWR system that rewards schools that have wealthy alumni, and also have medical schools. But as I pointed out several months ago, Memphis has an Architectural Master's degree program. UCONN doesn't even have a bachelors in Architecture.

See, what people mean when they say a school needs better academics is, they need a better (read smarter) student body. It has nothing to do with the QUALITY of education available at the institution. Because believe me, we have very good quality programs. What we DON'T have (yet, but we are working on it) is a student body who chose Memphis first. Oh, sure, 50% of the students of any given class at Memphis wanted to be Memphis Tigers. When we turn that into 99%, we will be in a much better academic position.

I promised myself I wouldn't comment in this thread, but I can't let the bolded go unanswered.

You, as a Memphis fan, aren't a conference mate with Stookey the Clown. He has never been, and will never be, a UCONN fan. He's a BC fan, and only a BC fan.

Just wish y'all would stop sucking to back up that bravado your fanbase exudes.

UConn men's hoops: 4 national championships
Memphis men's hoops: none

UConn women's hoops: 11 national championships
Memphis women's hoops: none

UConn football: 6 bowl games since 2003 (one of them a BCS bowl)
Memphis football: 8 bowl games since 2003 (only two bowls ever before that and none a BCS bowl). You all mock UConn for having no FBS history, but Memphis has a longer FBS history with not much more to show for it (I would argue less to show for it when you consider the length of time they have been "competing" at that level. Memphis has been terrible almost every year until the last dozen years - most of which were only mediocre).

UConn: a top 20 public university
Memphis: somewhere in the triple digits.

Connecticut: a wealthy state located on the coast with low crime, NYC entertainment practically at your door step
Memphis: an extremely dangerous city in a relatively poor inland state

I understand why you are butthurt and need to constantly do this shaft measuring thing. So, I just measured them for you to demonstrate why you are so bitter.

Talk to me when Memphis wins something of importance other than a regular season game (against an injured team of mostly freshmen) or when west Tennessee (specifically Memphis) ceases to be the crime infested backwater dumpster fire that it is. Until then, stop obsessing about UConn in every thread, move somewhere nicer, or go see a therapist.

My apologies to the good Memphis fans for what I just posted, but the handful of bad Memphis fans on here that keep bashing UConn for no reason deserved that one. You can't blame me the counterattack. Enough is enough.

The injury excuse for UConn infuriates me. Memphis literally goes 7 deep but really 6 deep now that Chad is injuries. We manage with only 1 5* , 2 4*, and unheralded guys compared to UConn's bench littered with top 100 talent. Grow some balls and buck up

Uh,,, Hartford is no bastion of serenity lol. I can garuantee you that if you asked a fair number of people in the USA or overseas which city they have heard of and or would prefer to visit, I'll bet Memphis would win hands down. Even with uppity people like you always throwing up our crime issues (that every metropolitan area has), Memphis has still contributed more to America and the world culture than anything that frozen ghetto you call Hartford ever has. No offense to the other Uconn fans, although as a whole have some creepy blood hatred towards Memphis. Yes I scan the boneyard and you know that I'm telling the truth.

Every quality of life study shows Connecticut in the top five and Tennessee in the bottom half of the states.

Memphis has been bowl eligible more seasons than UConn has played in total football seasons. If you are going to talk standard of living smack, I doubt many people on this board would choose to live in CT over TN so that is a pretty dull argument. No income tax and high pay is a whole heck of lot better than high pay and high taxes. Obviously UConn has bball prowess, but it is too bad they can't outdraw a AAC team no National Championships.

Surveys and polls are based on data. For anybody who wants to give an honest opinion on both places, live in Hartford for 10 years, then live in Memphis for 10 years, and get back to me. Otherwise, an argument on either side doesn't mean crap. Even then, people have different tastes.

In my experience, I was born and raised in Memphis, and love the place. Not there now b/c my wife and grandkids are in and from Georgia and Alabama, but I would still be there otherwise.

I also spent a couple of years working on business consulting projects in Hartford. I wouldn't spend 5 more seconds in that place than I had to. Too cold, too crowded, people are not friendly, etc. But that's just me.

I think what it really boils down to is that most of us are more comfortable in the surroundings in which we grew up. But to use some antiseptic stats to argue your place is better than somewhere else is irrelevant, IMO. Different strokes...
