Missed Shots+No defense=A trip back to beautiful West Virginia
That's cool with this guy though. As long as they score 100 points, he will be happy to head home.
Yeah because vcu's frantic style of play has really hurt them in tourneys.......
Yeah, their defense isn't great but if Marshall gets hot in Birmingham, there's hardly anyone in cusa that can hang with them.
Meanwhile if we have a night like we did tonight (and have had multiple times this year), we can lose to ANYONE. That's not great for winning tourneys either.
The odds we have there straight solid offensive performances (or maybe even 4) is slim to none. I'm not impressed.

Brutal comparison. VCU had a good bench and they played defense.

You make a good counter point, but if you also subscribe to, which I believe you've alluded to in the past, in one form or another, that we always seem to play to the level of the competition, you can't easily extricate yourself from then agreeing with the argument that how we play in one game, say against SMU, has no bearing whatsoever on how we perform in a next game, say against Marshall. That's what playing to your competition means, right? Yea, it may not constitute the best odds for winning, but as long as we consistently rise up to the level of our competition, I like our odds during tournament play.

RE: Marshall
Watching Marshall last night, MTSU showed how easy it can be to beat them. Slow the game down, pound the ball inside, rebound, and guard the 3 point line and make their guys drive the lane. Fortunately for MTSU, they weren't called for fouls everytime Elmore drove into the lane.

Yes. Much different outcome with officials when at MTSU vs. at Marshall.

RE: Marshall
Marshall and VCU are nothing alike. VCU is much more athletic, with bodies around the basket that can either rebound or block shots or both. Marshall is small. All they do is look to drive you, penetrate and kick out to shooters. VCU pressures the ball defensively. Completely different styles. I agree completely with 757. The common fan likes Marshalls style of play. It's exciting to watch, lots of points, but won't win them anything. I don't see them ever beating Middle Tenn. ODU completely outplayed Marshall in that game. ODU Scored 5 or 6 more baskets, still missed a ton of layups and Marshall was bailed out by a whistle every time they drove the ball in the second half. Not surprising.

There is the fact that MTSU is better than us. IMO they are clearly the best team in the league.
Now they probably go lose 3 out of 4.

I don't see them losing more than 1 or 2 conf games this season, if any.

I am gonna put the number at 1. They are legit. Marshall is not very good. Playing a sport at a high level, I know better than to blame the refs. This game, however, a complete embarrassment and has hopefully been reviewed.

Like I said, we can lose to anyone with an offense like ours. If we can lose to W&M, we can lose to anyone.
Winning 4 games in 4 days and beating mtsu or uab in Birmingham is an absolute pipe dream.

I hear you, and not at all oblivious to the point you are making. The other perspective I am trying to portray is that if, and that's a big if, we can [/b]consistently rise up to the level of MTSU, UAB, etc., I like our chances, granted it may not result in a "W".
