Boy, oh boy! Two guys we're lucky to have on our side! Dan does amazing interviews and broadcasts. Fickell doesn't come across like the last carnival barker holding the position. Good luck to both!

That's a great interview. Hoard is really a pro. Two good representatives of our University. And I especially
like Fickell referring to O$U as "the place I used to be".

easy to see why he was the only one the Urban kept after he took over....
very excited to have CLF
Funny you mention that - I just had dinner with an old friend who's a huge Notre Dame fan. He told me that Notre Dame tried to hire Fickell as their DC after Tressel left. He referred to it as a "bidding war" that Urban won and Notre Dame lost.
I admit that he wasn't at the top of my list for the next head coach, but holy crap, everything he has done since taking the job has impressed me. It feels like we got really lucky.
Ok, I've done a total 180 on CLF. This guy is awesome and I think he is gonna win a lot of games for us. He reminds me a lot of his old mentor Urban in a good way.

Originally, he was not at the top of my list either. I live in central ohio and I have strong memories of how overwhelmed he was in the head coaching position. It was miserable for him, and I did not want a repeat here. Consequently, after listening to his supporters, it became more and more apparent that he is a strong fit. Strong ties to Ohio, veteran coach, and that opportunity at Ohio State as a failed head coach that created a hunger to not repeat the same mistakes here.

How do you define "failed" rose? To be fair, LF coached as interim for one year under less than ideal circumstances. He didn't move the needle in one respect but let's face it, he could've gotten them to the Rose Bowl and as long as Urban Meyer wanted the job that ended LF's opportunity - or anyone else for that matter.

I would say a 6-7 record is a failure at Ohio State with the talent they have. Especially when that season was sandwiched in between a 12-1 season and a 12-0 season. It happens and hopefully he learned a lot from it.

The way that CLF talks about winning three instead of four Ohio wrestling championships in HS and other instances indicates that he probably views his record as OSU head coach as a failure as well.
He is doing all of the right things, surrounding himself with all of the right people, and achieving early results that indicate that he is prepared for this position. Let's hope it translates to results on the field.

I don't disagree with the expectations and talented roster. I'm simply asking is it fair to label him as a "failed head coach" after only one season?
About that 6-7 OSU season -- Fickell was thrusted into the head coaching role unexpectedly and late in the game, similar to Andy Kennedy. Several of their best players were suspended the first 5 games of the season. The program was buried in scandal and controversy. And 6 of the 7 losses were by 7 points or less. Was it a failure? Sure, but I don't think that one season 6 years ago under the circumstances are any indication of how CLF will be as head coach of the Bearcats.

The guy was asked to marshal a sh*t parade in the middle of a sh*t show. The fact that he remained after Meyer took over says a hell of a lot. Talent be damned, he managed it as well as he could have. More importantly, he has never avoided talking about it. He owns it. Contrast that with OPB telling our fans to get a job. Tells you all you need to know about where we were versus where we are.
