Exclamation Kennesaw State should be in the Sun Belt Conference
The Owls are looking good and should be a candidate for Sun Belt Conference expansion.

KENNESAW, Ga. (Dec 8, 2016) — The Kennesaw State football team, fresh off a successful eight-win season that came within one win of a Big South Conference title, has released the 2017 schedule. The Owls are set for 11 games, including six at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

What makes them a better choice than a school like Liberty or Jacksonville State that can put 20K in the seats?

KSU is just north of Atlanta which is inside the current Sun Belt footprint which makes the travel arrangements for non Football conference teams easier and cheaper.

KSU vs Ga State games would put 40,000 in the seats every year.

I would expect similar attendance for games against Ga Southern.

The USA, Troy have a lot of alumni in Atlanta metro. Not sure about Coastal Carolina alumni numbers in Atlanta.

KSU has about 37,000 students while Liberty has 15,000 students on campus.

KSU is the better social fit for the SBC.

JSU's problem is that there are already two SBC schools in Alabama and is in a rural location like Liberty.

Atlanta > Lynchburg > Jacksonville, Alabama

I can't see KSU going to the SBC unless GaSt gets a call to the AAC.

Just what we need. Another broke school trying to play above thier means.
128 Kennesaw State Atl Sun $20,684,821 $20,144,745 $17,363,777 83.94

Nothing screams FBS like a 20 million $ AD with 84% subsidy to operate.

RE: Kennesaw State should be in the Sun Belt Conference
I could see how one could argue that a school like Liberty, which drew 16,376 this year and 18,990 the year before, or Jacksonville State (17,576 and 20,598) could get up into the 20,000's by playing FBS competition every week, but how do you figure a Georgia State-Kennesaw State game would put 40,000 in the stands?

Georgia Southern has a much larger fan base and their game at Georgia State only drew 23,513, but Kennesaw State, who gets 6,000 at home games, is going to get 40,000 fans to show up in Atlanta?

Georgia Southern and Appalachian State were good adds. Both were rural, had winning cultures, and established football fan bases. Coastal Carolina it going to have a tough time. I don't know how they are going to get attendance up to 15K. It will be tough. The Sun Belt doesn't need to expand, but if they did, it would need to be with another school that can put 20K in the stands.

RE: Kennesaw State should be in the Sun Belt Conference
I was reading about how these schools manage to meet the 15k minimum and it sure sounds ridiculous.
http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/2...-difficult

Kennesaw would have to add about 7,500 tickets per game to meet the minimum standard. So a corporate sponsor would be needed to buy those tickets or find some other creative way to give them away without hurting existing ticket sales.

Schools with stronger fan support which actually meets the minimum standard without shenanigans are probably better candidates at this point.

Marketz isn't driving the Sun Belt.

Someone wants to get the league's attention, they need to be reasonably proximate to the current league.
Either be an obvious addition because they win football games and sell tickets or be an obvious addition because they are going to bring hoops excellence or be an obvious addition because their overall program has shown the capacity to be very successful across multiple sports.

The current leadership (university presidents) don't care if your school is in a city of 1.3 million or 13,000, you have to fit what they are looking for. The people who wanted markets are gone.
