The sport as a whole? Or MAC WBB? Because a MAC team will never be a national title contender so that's irrelevant to us anyhow. As far as someone knocking off UConn... people said the same thing about Bama in football. Will UConn win another title? Probably! But upsets happen. The entire country shouldnt quit because of it. The NBA sucks too... a couple super teams that spend a ton of money on big name players. At least WBB at the college level is still a pretty even playing field as far as extras go. No players make money... Geno has just built a culture of winning so he gets the 4 or 5 best players in the country on a yearly basis.

Every program has goals. Im proud of what my team has done under the current staff. An NCAA birth would be icing on the cake. Since Tricia Cullop has been head coach in 2008, she is 99 games over .500. We have a WNIT National Title, some great OOC wins, and a top25 program by attendance. WBB games are fun in my town. If the MAC spent half as much energy as UConn or even Toledo on their womens PROGRAM (everything around it), the MAC would be a multiple bid league in a sport that looks over WBB. We have 6 teams better than 11-4! That's awesome! Embrace it!!

The sport of women's basketball as a whole is what I'm referring to. At least on the men's side there is hope a team comes out of the woodwork like a Butler or VCU or even Kent to challenge for a national championship. You see the Appalachian State's of the world knock off Michigan in football. Bama has had a nice dynasty in football going for 7-8 years and even they can't match UConn's 90 game win streak or just pure dominance.

I'm not going to fault someone for taking an interest in wbb, but it's just not for me. I've hated what the NBA has turned into and honestly would have quit watching already if not for the fact my team is currently the one on top (Cavs). You want to call it more balanced than the NBA. I call it 1 GS, a handful of Toronto Raptors/Boston Celtics, and about 340 other Sacramento Kings/Philly 76ers/Nets.

Edit: For the record I attended a dozen or so games as an undergrad so its not like I haven't given the sport a chance.

As UofToledoFans wrote, a MAC team isn't going to win the NCAA WBB national championship...nor will they win on the men's side either...nor in football. But MAC women's basketball is a very competitive brand and is generally thought of as one of the best mid-major conferences. Also, you mentioned Kent having the chance at a national championship when they made the Elite Eight in men's hoops, but you didn't mention BG making the Sweet Sixteen in women's hoops in 2007. Had their shooting been even season average against Arizona State in that game, there is a good chance they would have made the Elite Eight. MAC WBB is successful, and will continue to become more successful. Now, what the f**k happened to BG.....

RE: Women's basketball
A very interesting day for women's basketball in the MAC.

Northern Illinois (12-4, 5-0 in MAC) has convinced me that it's for real. Huskies beat Toledo at Toledo 77-73. Toledo is 12-4, 3-2. Win for Northern is after they came from 12 down to beat Kent State 98-97 in Kent Wednesday and after they beat Ohio in Dekalb 88-80 last Saturday.

Ohio, though, lost to Kent State in Athens, 68-65, in certainly Kent's best game of the season. Kent had 16 steals and forced 22 turnovers against an Ohio team that was averaging only 13 turnovers a game. Ohio is 12-4, 3-2, and still in first in the MAC East. Kent State is 8-9, 2-3 and tied with Buffalo for second. Eight wins is more than KSU has won in any season since 2011-12. (Story on the game is on my blog at http://wbbflashes.com.)

Central Michigan, the other undefeated team in the MAC, had to go to overtime but beat Bowling Green at BG, 76-65. Presley Hudson had 33 points for CMU, including 11 in overtime. She's averaging 33.7 in her five conference games. Reyna Frost had 23 rebounds, second highest in school history. Central is 13-4 and 5-0 in the conference. BG is 5-12, 1-4.

Western Michigan (13-4, 4-1) beat Eastern Michigan 76-67 at Eastern.

Ball State (11-6, 4-1) beat Akron (7-9, 0-5) at Ball State, 80-70.

Buffalo (12-4, 2-3) broke a three--game losing streak and won at Miami (7-11, 1-4), 68- 51.

So Northern and Central are tied at 5-0 in the West, with Ball State and Western Michigan at 4-1. Toledo is a very good team at 3-2. The West is certainly the stronger division this season.

Ohio leads the East at 3-2, with Buffalo and Kent State at 2-3.

Big game Wednesday is Ohio at Toledo. After Kent's win at Ohio, its game at Western might be interesting.

MAC standings are at http://www.espn.com/womens-college-baske...onference.

RE: Women's basketball
Toledo was 5 of 25 from 3 point range against NIU.
Two Rockets starters had 2 fouls four minutes into the game and had to sit the entire half. A big NIU first quarter propelled them to victory as Toledo came back from 16 or 17 in the 2nd qtr to tie it multiple times in the 4th. The Rockets never took the lead. Toledo has lost 3 in a row at home and just cannot shoot at home this year. It seems like road is home for the Lady Rockets this year. Toledo won the final 3 qtr's against Notre Dame as well. Keeping NIU to 77 points was one of their lowest totals for the Huskies this season. The Rockets play THE best D in the conference. They will live and die by the 3 point line and FT line though. Shooting 60% from the charity stripe won't win a ton of games in the MAC West. Keeping teams 10-15 points under their season average may be enough for a top 4 seed though. The Rockets host OU Wednesday.

Lots of upsets on the road Wednesday.

NIU's first MAC loss was also Akron's first win. Game was at Northern Illinois, and 55 points was Northern's lowest total of the season by 22. Akron is 8-9 and 1-5 in league. NIU is 12-5, 5-1. Akron had five players in double figures and made 14 three-pointers. Northern shot 33 percent from the field.

Kent State came from 14 points down to beat Western Michigan 71-67 at Western. The Flashes have beaten WMU and Ohio back to back on the road. Both had been undefeated at home. KSU is 9-9, 3-3. Western is 13-4, 4-2. Story is on my blog at http://wbbflashes.com.

Ohio (13-4, 4-2) beat Toledo (12-5, 3-3) 64-55 at Toledo. I'd call it an upset because it was on the road. Quiera Lampkins had 26 points and 10 rebounds for Ohio. Toledo shot just 31 percent.

Central Michigan (14-4, 6-0) beat Miami (7-12, 1-5) at home and is now the only undefeated team in MAC play. Tinara Moore had 23 points and 10 rebounds for CMU. Presley Hudson, who had been averaging 33.8 points in league games, had 13 and five steals.

Buffalo (13-4, 3-3) beat Bowling Green (5-13, 1-5) 61-50 at BG.

It was Ball State (12-6, 5-1) 78, Eastern Michigan (5-13, 0-6) 49 at Ball State.

Big games Saturday are Central Michigan at Buffalo and Toledo at Kent State.

MAC standings are at http://www.espn.com/womens-college-baske...onference.

You have to reverse the upset thinking for Toledo. It's an upset if we win at home. We're road warriors who can't shoot in our own gym.

Amherst is a suburb of Buffalo. Basically the long story short is when UB looked to expand they wanted to use a golf course across the road from the city campus. Whoever owned it at the time wanted an insane amount of money so the school said screw it. So they purchased land in nearby Amherst for a much cheaper price and that's where the arena is.

To more accurately portray what happened, when the state wanted to expand the school, a bunch of corrupt politicians made a sweetheart deal with "friends" of their's to buy a large area of swamp land and sell it to the state at an inflated price. Otherwise the new campus would have been on the waterfront in downtown where it belonged.

RE: Women's basketball
There are no undefeated teams in MAC play any more.

Buffalo (14-4, 4-3) handed Central Michigan (14-4, 6-1) its first loss in Buffalo Saturday, 67-56. The Bulls held Central to 9 points in the fourth quarter and 32 percent shooting for the game. Senior JoAnna Smith had a season-high 29 points for Buffalo. Earlier in the season, CMU had beaten Buffalo 88-71 at Central.

Central is now in a three-way tie for first in the West at 5-1 with Ball State and Northern Illinois. Western Michigan is 4-2.

In the other big game Saturday, Kent State beat Toledo in Kent, 70-60. That's three wins in a row (two on the road) for Kent against upper-echelon MAC teams -- Toledo, Ohio and Western (combined record (40-14). Jordan Korinek had 23 points (she's averaging more than 20 in league play) and Larissa Lurken 22 (she's averaging about 25 in the MAC). Toledo continued to struggle terrible shooting -- 33 percent for its third straight game under 35 (all losses). Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, Toledo's leading scorer and one of the conference's best players, missed the game with a concussion and is out indefinitely, though UT does have a bye week for her to get healthy. Full story, including quotes from both teams, is on my blog at http://wbbflashes.com. Kent State is now 10-9, 4-3 in the MAC. Toledo is 12-6, 3-4.

Ohio (14-4, 5-2) beat Eastern Michigan (5-14, 0-7) at home, 68-51. The Bobcats are a game ahead of Kent State and Buffalo in the MAC East.

Western Michigan (14-4, 5-2) beat Akron (8-10, 1-6), 73-57 at Akron.

Ball State (13-6, 5-1) beat Bowling Green (5-14, 1-6) at BG, 75-53.

RE: Women's basketball
Ball State and Northern Illinois both won Wednesday to stay tied for first in the MAC West at 7-1. Central Michigan, which was idle, is a half game behind at 6-1.

Ball State (14-5, 7-1) knocked off Buffalo (14-5, 4-4) at Buffalo, 89-75. BSU junior forward Moriah Monaco's had a career-high 35 points. Buffalo's Stephanie Reid equaled a school record with 16 assists. Ball State has won four straight while Buffalo saw its three-game winning streak ended.

Northern Illinois (14-5, 7-1) scored a school-record 37 points in the third quarter and beat Kent State (10-10, 4-4), 93-72. Six Huskies scored in double figures. Kent State had 83 shots (15 more than NIU) and missed 58 of them. Larissa Lurken had 24 for KSU but was 6 for 25. Game story, including quotes from both coaches, is on my blog at http://wbbflashes.com. When NIU gets rolling the way it did in the third quarter, it's a very impressive team.

Ohio (15-4, 6-2) went on a 21-1 run in the second quarter and beat Western Michigan (14-5, 5-3), 80-67 at Ohio. Quiera Lampkins had 16 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Here, I whipped something up in paint:

Cool! Thanks.

The other side is the politics of rebuilding the state University systems in the 70s. In the 60s Universities had become places of highly political activism. By the 70s it had in some cases begun to merge with urban politics and inner city revolutionaries. there was an economic meltdown and jobs crisis. The Vietnam War had grown and become indefensible and more bloody. The future control of inner cities and the politics of the educated classes were at stake. UB was a very politicized school in the 70s. New York and Buffalo politicians and power brokers made a deal to build a big new campus in the suburbs. Better facilities, infrastructure jobs, payoffs in the short term and more academic system jobs in the long term plus isolation of the university from the politics in the street. California built an entire system for this purpose. Creating 5 new beautiful isolated campuses to join UCLA and Berkeley in the elite Univ of California system. There is a reason Buffalo has this big modern well financed university campus in the middle of not Buffalo or much of anywhere else.

RE: Women's basketball
Northern Illinois, which was picked fifth in the MAC West in preseason, beat Ball State 101-96 at Ball State to take sole possession of first place in the league.

NIU is 8-1 at the halfway point of the conference season and 15-5 overall. Ball State is 7-2 14-7 overall.

Northern trailed by 11 points in the first quarter but scored 30 points in the fourth quarter on 11 of 15 shooting. The Huskies are third in the country in scoring offense. Ally Lehman had 18 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds for NIU; Courtney Woods led the team with 21 points. Moriah Monaco had 23 for Ball State, which had five players in double figures.

Central Michigan (14-6, 6-2) lost its second league game, falling at Toledo (13-6, 4-4), 74-72. The win breaks a three-game losing streak for Toledo, which is 13-6 and 4-4. Toledo had 21 offensive rebounds and had 22 second-chance points against Central, which went into the game leading the MAC in rebounding margin (+6.7) in league games. Five Rockets scored in double figures. Tinara Moore had a season-best 33 points for CMU. Presley Hudson, who was leading the MAC in conference games at 27.1 points per game, was held to 9 on 2-of-10 shooting. Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, who missed Toledo's loss to Kent State last week with a concussion, returned to action with 13 points.

Buffalo (15-5, 5-4) won a big cross-division at Western Michigan (14-6, 5-4), 62-47. The Bulls held Western to 30 points over the last three quarters and limited WMU to 26 percent shooting. JoAnna Smith had 27 points for Buffalo.

Ohio (16-4, 7-2) kept its two-game lead in the East with a 79-62 win at Miami (7-14, 1-7). Quiera Lampkins had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Kent State (11-10, 5-4) stayed even with Buffalo in the conference with a last-second 80-78 win over Bowling Green (5-16, 1-8) in Kent. KSU's Larissa Lurken (31 points) and BG's Carly Santoro (32 points) dueled throughout the game, often guarding each other. Lurken took a charge from Santoro with 27 seconds to go and the score tied. Then back-up point guard Megan Carter hit a 12-foot jumper with 2 seconds to go the win the game. Lurken made 19 of 20 free throws. She leads the nation in free throws attempted and made. Story, including quotes from both teams, is on my blog at http://wbbflashes.com.

Akron (9-10, 2-7) beat Eastern Michigan (6-15, 1-7) in Akron. Hannah Plybon had 26 and Alex Ricketts 22 for the Zips.

Best games on Wednesday look to be Buffalo at Toledo and Ohio at Central Michigan.
