610 West is the worst in the city. You have no alternate route to avoid traffic at rush hour.

Tulsa at Houston attendance
It's gonna take some doing to get cougar fans back on basketball
I don't remember the Elvin hays days much at UofH and the big game in the astrodome with UCLA but when Clyde and Akeem were here it was insane
Those teams not winning a NC is just ... I don't have the words....

But I keep hearing that the fans have to show up better to support the team before the players will play better. Houston has proved that wrong. Maybe Lebo will finally let his team run and gun and play a full court, fanatic pace where they want have to think but only do. They seem to play much better at that pace which is usually at the end of the game when we are trying to mount a comeback.

Will the students be on campus for Saturday?

Students won't make an impact until the Memphis game. Until then all the support is going to have to come from alum and random locals. Don't expect more than half full. Sucks but it's reality.

Yep, attendance will go from 372 to 419. What will UH do with all the extra revenue?

If attendance doesn't pick up when we open the new arena then all hope is lost for the long term outlook of the program. I truly believe the updated venue plus a beefier non conf schedule will get UH fans reenergized for cougar basketball. Oh yeah, and winning. Losing is a non starter for UH fans.

we are actually getting better in attendance. playing a 7-6 tulsa on break a few years ago would have been a cloud of dust for attendance, it was a remotely decent crowd, over a 1k+ actual people...its a slow process but its actually improving

Sorry, but that is pretty pathetic reasoning. You're in a town of 2.5 million people and you can't draw 1000 people to a game involving the largest university in the city, and one that has previously won a national championship? that's the definition of "lame".

We haven't won an NCAA tournament game in over thirty years (1984).

We've played in just ONE tournament since current college kids have been alive (2010).

NOBODY would draw under those circumstances. Period.

If you're attempting to shame us for our basketball attendance, it's not going to work. We know it's bad, we admit it's bad. We are attempting to solve it by throwing money at it and hoping that it will reignite some interest, but we also don't claim to be a basketball school. What else do you want?

we just discussed this there was easily more than a 1000 people there, i wouldnt be shocked if the actual peple count of people is closer to 2k

we havent won a tourney game in 30 years...the thing about big cities is there are other options, if look to be second class. the rockets are there, there are other things to do...same for smu, their attendance was dreadful til they started competing on the national level and accepted as competitor by the national media

same with our football, we were doing 16k in 04 before briles, briles started winning, we started doing 25k, sumlin kept winning, we sold out almost every game of our 30k stadium, herman kept winning, we got a new stadium and today we are are doing 38k, in a 9 year span

if we ever make a tourney and get to atleast the sweet 16...or randomly get hyped up from beating some powerhouses like Kentucky or duke ....or get a scary top 5 recruiting class, and its obvious we are top tier we will draw.. we need something to get everyone's attention ..then feed them with good bball

cincy is different becuase they have sustain success and built a stable core

Pesik is right. SMU did it with winning and hiring a star for a coach, now it is winning that keeps us selling out. Remember you are talking Texas where Football is king and the Big 12 devastates the schools not lucky enough to be in it by refusing to play us for the most part. We are lucky that TCU is such an historic rival that they are on our schedule for most sports. For SMU, we also have to fight the lack of student population as do most privates. Which means less alumni as well. But give UH a break, they will get there with a few good years.

Ok. Be an ass. Every UH fan readily accepts that basketball attendance is a problem. Our administration is taking steps towards improving it. However, improved scheduling, upgrading facilities, and winning games isn't something you can rush. Sampson has the coaching prowess to have us winning 20+ games every year in this conference. We are renovating our arena next year. This will bring more fans.

What you guys have to understand is that we were a storied program that completely imploded. I mean we won a regular season tourney for the first time in like 20+ season's. We have been really bad. It's going to take time to fix our attendance.

That said we've got a talented team this year. So talk **** all you want because as fans we can feel comfortable that our program is moving in the right direction.

It's not a coincidence that the last sell out UH had was against UT a few years ago. It would be nice to schedule some in state rivals that the locals care about. Probably won't happen but it would help. I think we have Arky coming in town in two seasons. Old SWC match up will draw nicely.

UH basketball hasn't been bad (except from 1993-2004, only one losing season since the start of 2004-05) but it hasn't competed nationally in a long time, so interest has just waned.
