One thing for sure, Wisconsin in the WMU Cotton Bowl was nowhere as freakin fast as FSU was in the NIU Orange Bowl. Like bottled lightning.

RE: NIU Orange Bowl vs. WMU Cotton Bowl
I am happy for WMU making the Cotton Bowl and I was surprised that they kept the game so close. I am not going to wallow in jealousy and sour grapes saying, "Well, NIU went to the Orange Bowl in 2012, and they played FSU.".

I was impressed with WMU's performance. I predicted Wisconsin would win 42-17. When the Badgers marched down the field and scored TDs on their first two drives, I was having flashbacks of last years Poinsettia Bowl, and I was about to say a toataso, but WMU kept it close after that, and actually outscored Wisconsin in the remaining three quarters.

Give credit where credit is due. I look forward to seeing the Huskies play what is left of the Broncos in DeKalb, next year.

I forgot about NIU's 1988 win over Wisky - we both beat Badgers that year.

I stand corrected, my bad.

NIU did I believe have trouble getting rid of their tickets as a lot of people bought from places like Stubhub. I know there were some empty seats in the upper deck but don't remember how many. The rest of the stadium was packed.

NIU was playing Florida State in Florida and WMU was playing Wisconsin in Texas. NIU's Orange Bowl appearance was played on New Years Day in primetime, and WMU's Cotton Bowl appearance was at noon on January 2nd.

With that being said...

NIU/Florida State drew 72,073 fans, the second highest total for the OB since 2009. Only was bested by OSU/Clemson the following year (by 7 entire people). The game drew a 10.6 overnight rating, up from 7.2 the year before.

Wisconsin/WMU drew 59,615 fans, the lowest number since the game moved to Jerry World and the lowest Cotton Bowl total since 1998. It drew a 3.2 overnight TV rating, by far the lowest of the New Years 6 games.

For all of the people who thought the controversy or "lack of respect" for NIU leading up to the Orange Bowl, in every way, shape, or form NIU's trip to the OB drew way more interest than WMU in the Cotton Bowl.

This is a silly and pointless post, Seven, because you are comparing apples to oranges. As another pointed out, FSU playing in their home state is vastly different than fans from the midwest making the trek to Texas when you are trying to fill a stadium.

Also, when we played in the Orange Bowl, there was no playoff that drew the attention away from the major bowl games. If you put NIU/FSU in that same Cotton Bowl this year, it's doubtful the ratings would be any better than what Wisconsin/WMU drew.

Why the chip on your shoulder about WMU playing in a major bowl? Trying to belittle their program does not lift ours up, so I'm confused why you feel slighted. It was an amazing season for NIU and a phenomenal moment for all Huskie fans, alumni, and former players when we took the field in the Orange Bowl. The same can be said for the Broncos during their moment.

Both fan bases should be proud and grateful for the memories.

I was at the OB. The attendance was, of course, overstated but it was a crowded stadium. I think it was about 60/40 FSU to NIU fans, and I'm not exaggerating. There were more Huskie fans there than any of the Soldier Field games. More than maybe any Huskie game in DeKalb.

The only reason the other games were on January 2nd was because it was on a Sunday. The state of Florida alone has more population and TV viewers then Michigan and Wisconsin combined.

Jesus Christ Vegas haven't you read the 31 percent of DPN's other posts based on his all-knowing conclusion: "WMU sucks" ????
Thinking that belittling someone's program lifts ours up is the simplest conclusion for a simple mind.
