RE: How many bowls did/have you watched?
There were 11 games I did not watch. Most of those were because they started late and just weren't compelling enough to stay up late for. Those would include:

New Orleans (So Miss v ULL)
Poinsettia (BYU v Wyoming)
Idaho Potato (Idaho v Colo State)
Dollar General (Troy v Ohio)
Hawaii (Hawaii v MTSU)
Cactus (Baylor v Boise)
Foster Farms (Utah v Indiana)
Texas (Kansas St v Texas A&M)
Sugar (Oklahoma v Auburn)

The other two were because they conflicted with another game in the same time slot.

Taxslayer (Ga Tech v Kentucky) (against Citrus LSU v Louisville)
Outback (Florida v Iowa) (against Wisconsin v Western Michigan)

The ones I did watch were as meaningful as bowl games have always been, and just as entertaining. I confess I didn't watch Clemson - Ohio State until the end once it was clearly not competitive. Had that been the early game and Alabama - Washington the late one I would have watched all of both of them.

RE: How many bowls did/have you watched?
Bowls are not exhibition games. I'm not sure who started that nonsense, but it simply isn't true.

So, what is a bowl game?
1. It's a marquee matchup between two teams which, on some level, earned it.
2. True, most of them don't affect this year's playoff race, but they very well may affect next year's - especially with regard to preseason rankings.
3. Unlike NFL preseason exhibition games, college teams actually try to win their bowl games.
4. It's the final game of the season for every team but two, with an 8 month wait before the next game.

Any or all of those are reasons to watch bowl games.

If bowl games aren't exhibition games, when did that change? For many years, the AP selected its mythical champion before any bowls were even played. Gradually, that has changed, but they are still exhibitions. The four points you make are all true. They just aren't relevant to the exhibition question.

Let the market decide. FBS fans sure like regulation to limit teams and now bowls.

I think I watched parts of 4 games. My team did so badly this year that I just lost interest in the outcomes of other teams.

That's still more than the number of NFL games I watched. I refuse to patronize such a blatantly political organization (as the NFL has proven to be over the past couple of years).

It's a high level exhibition game. One because it showcases the younger guys that have worked their way up the depth chart and may be starting or featured the following year.

It is also the send off for the juniors who leave early and the seniors. Of course they want to go out with a win. This is where the urgency factor comes in. Also coaches have extra time to prepare and don't want the to embarrass the school and conference.

But the game has no merit for standings or advancing in a playoff. Plus it's not like you are playing another conference champion every time. Sometimes you are playing the 4th or 5th place team in the B1G or SEC. That's not a huge reward. So the dilution factor kills it.

Now that you have a playoff, the other bowl games are further legitimized. As opposed to having a 3 vs 6 or a 4 vs 5, you exclude every top 4 team from the mix. So it's really two games and everything else is crap.

The idea that you can have an 8 team playoff within the bowl system is nonsense. Those other games outside the playoff would be getting preseason type ratings at that point.

Almost all of them. All of some and some of others. Surprisingly I watched the pre-Christmas bowls all the way through and only parts of many of the after Christmas.

I watched one from start to finish, my team App St in the Camellia Bowl. I watched parts (but never more than 25%) of maybe 12 others. I don't remember which except I know I tuned into other SBC bowls, both CFP semis and 2 FCS playoffs games

1!

The UW/UA game.

I would have easily watched them all or nearly all of them but my wife and I just finished building a house and Comcast are in no hurry to install a cable.

0.

I caught the first 10 min of game time of ODU vs EMU but had to go out with the family.
I saw 5 min of the LA Tech vs Navy game. I only wanted to watch the ODU game. Have not and will not watch the play offs / championship. They don't matter to me.

Didn't watch any all the way through. Did watch some of the Clemson/OSU game while at the parents during Christmas though.

The networks, of course, think that P5 matchups are so compelling that folks will watch them regardless of their loyalties to G5 or lesser Alma Maters.

Not in this household. My guys have been poorly coached and non-competitive since Butch Jones sneaked out of town to take the Tennessee job, and they didn't make a bowl this year, so the season ended early. With a vigorous, accomplished and enthusiastic coach now at the helm, it won't be like that next year. Cincy will go bowling!

Anyone know what Tommy Tuberville is doing now that he's unemployed? I'd like to think he's standing in a bread-line someplace, but doubt that he's skilled enough and motivated enough to do even that.
