RE: Cotton Bowl: Western Michigan v. Wisconsin
If anything UH's schedule gave UH a shot at the National Championship-it was team underperformance-perhaps a Coach with one foot out the door-for Houston to Coog-it. You can't blame it on the schedule when you lose Conference games to SMU, Memphis and Navy and get blown out by SDSU. UH was undefeated in non-conference. The other games were conference games you don't get to schedule

The only thing we can say with any confidence is that they are the 33rd best team in the country.

??? It's not really debatable. They were the highest ranked G5 conference champion in the CFP poll which earned them the berth. Thems the rules.

I'd argue that they manipulated the rules. They played absolutely no one and ran up their record to 13-0. If you think they're really the 15th best team in the country, then lol.

They scheduled two Big Ten teams and Georgia Southern, who had been one of the better teams in the Sun Belt the last few years. I know Illinois has sucked for a while, but Northwestern was coming off a 10-win season and still managed to finish above .500 in the Big Ten this year.

If any of our teams could have gotten through their schedules with less than 3 teams, maybe we would have a stronger argument. But no team with 3+ losses has any right to have sour grapes over WMU making the Cotton Bowl.

"Two Big Ten teams" doesn't mean anything. Northwestern isn't Michigan. Illinois isn't Ohio State.

It's not really sour grapes, we've just learned that we need to more carefully construct our schedules. I know they are fun for our fans, but maybe we shouldn't be playing OU, Louisville, Ohio State, etc. We aren't going to make the playoffs, so those games do nothing for us other than remove us from the NY6 conversation when we lose.

Maybe we should all instead be blowing up KU, Purdue, and Rutgers' phones, since WMU didn't beat two garbage teams, they beat "two Big Ten teams". Apparently any P5 win is a P5 win.

Who should have represented instead? 10-3 Temple or 9-4 Navy?

Oddly they don't even have a game thread going lol. So it appears that they loved arguing with us all day more than rooting for their team in this blowout in the making. Go Wisconsin!!05-mafia

Maybe you should worry about beating conference teams and finishing higher than 4th in your division before you worry about the OOC schedule! No other G5 champion had a better resume than Western Michigan, and that's fact. While they didn't have good wins, they didn't have any bad losses, which the other champs did.

RE: Cotton Bowl: Western Michigan v. Wisconsin
wow if wmu doesn't make this competitive..this will be all bad for the MAC

the mac and the bowl had to buy tickets for wmu fans, and tickets fell to $6 (business standpoint)

ESPN choose a game with 2 8-4 teams for ABC over the bowl (viewership)

if this gets an ugly score, the moral argument for the mac looks weak...at the end of the day this is a business and they will make an argument for money

Aren't all the major NY6 bowl games on ESPN?

It's not about UH specifically, it's about the AAC as a whole. We all need to learn to schedule so that when our champion loses 1 or 2 conference games, they are 12-1 or 11-2, not 10-3 or 9-4.

If we do that, we'll win the NY6 bid every year barring a 13-0 Boise.

I think the point is just because you go undefeated doesn't qualify you as the best team. The goal of the committee is to select the best team regardless of the records since all leagues and OOC games aren't equal. If they go on to lose by 30 I think it will be very unlikely that we see a MAC team in this game for some time. Fool me once (NIU) shame on you, fool me twice (WMU) shame on me. I respect them going undefeated but as another poster indicated they played no one with a pulse.
I've been saying this for weeks, it's an obvious conclusion to me. Be careful about being honest about the g4 teams though or some of those fake AAC fans will come forward to set you straight lol04-cheers

Wow. I have to admit that Wisconsin looks very pedestrian, I think if USF or Tulsa or even Houston were in this game Wisconsin would be staring down the barrel of a serious blowout.

ESPN did well to hide that angle up until the point where they just came back from commercial. The crowd is worse than I thought, there isn't a single person in the upper bowl on WMU's side. Wow, I bet the CBAA is thrilled.
