It's time. He can't take this team any further. I could suck as bad as him for half the price! He has proven time and again he can't prepare a team to win.
Joey, do the RIGHT THING and RESIGN!

It's so difficult to gain momentum for firing someone following a bowl game.

His seat should be warm next year. And the schedule does him no favors. I'm not holding a pitchfork in my hand, but I've gotten it out of its case. We don't recruit well, and instead rely on juco and transfer luck. Our offense is gimmicky and causes our defense to spend too much time on the field. Our conference mates have figured us out. We're stunningly inconsistent , which is no way to build a fanbase. We make many dumb mistakes, we don't hold leads, and we gamble too much. Next year, improvement in all of these areas is needed

My buddy and I were talking about how good of a job Jones has done there. Along with ODU, the best of the recent start up programs.

That being said, I'm a Georgia Southern fan and I'm not one to tell anyone how to run their program.

Yeah, I believe his contract is up next year. I figured that we needed a bowl game, and then a good showing in the game to even think about an extension. As it stands, South got embarrassed tonight, so Joey needs a season like he has been unable to deliver to even think about an extension.
I just haven't seen him able to use the talent that he has for wins.
Side note, I know the university approved the funds for an Indoor (ish) practice facility but I'm still not sold that the school is sold on FBS football.

Rule of thumb is that you don't have a contract year because if it goes south, you risk losing your team, a recruiting class, etc because why should the staff care beyond a certain point? Either give Jones an extension or let him go.

RE: FIRE JOEY JONES#
No reason to fire him this late. If we were going to fire him it would have been in late November/early December. No one wants to hear about injuries but the fact is we had over 20 "starters" injured or not play in a game this season. Of course 4 of those didn't even play a game since they were injured during the spring or summer. It was just a weird year for the Jags. The only game I was pissed about was the ULM game when our D clearly decided not to show up that day. But next year is a make or break year for him. I hope he gets the chance to have all the bullets in the chamber next season so we can see how good or bad of a coach he is.

Jones has not developed as a Head Coach. We need somebody who is hungry and not just hoping for the best.

Are there any Assistant Head Coaches in the conference we should keep an eye?

I can't base his future on last nights game. We were supposed to lose that game by 14, we came out quick. Made a couple mistakes with 3:36 left in the half and never recovered.

Next year his make or break year. It is time to compete for the conference, if we don't, it's probably time to make a change.

FIU proved we don't have to look at SBC assistants for our next coach. We should be able to make a big hire from a big program. I still like Coach John Grass at JSU. Maybe even pull Polini from Youngstown, see if he wants back in FBS. If Idaho completes the move, got a Patrino brother they may want to stay in conference. Plenty of options if needed.

Until he's not our coach, he's our coach. GO JAGS!!!

I understand the injuries situation, But I think he has taken the team far as he can go. The constant bad penalties and turnovers. It just seems when the team has a very bad play or two the team gets all off track and never recovers. The ark state game last year was a prime example. We don't know how to put teams away, make adjustments, calling timeouts, and getting plays in. The way the team has played is why I wasn't making the trip to Arizona.

And to be fair, that fumble near the end of the half was just... freakish. 9 times out of 10, it wouldn't happen.

Just so happens, that fumble gave Air Force the ball on like the 1, and I can't remember but they either took the lead or got DAMN close with that play.

I don't remember the sequence, but we also shanked a punt (for the first time this season) and gave them the ball around the 40. Both of those plays combined gave them the tie before halftime. After that, our offense remembered how bad they are.

I think you confused FIU's coach with FAU's hire. FAU hired Kiffen. FIU just stinks.

I agree that USA should be all over Grass at JSU. I think if App loses Satterfield after next year he'll be packing his bags for Boone unless an Alabama team needs him. If Troy and USA both are coachless next year (for different reasons) they should look his way.

I'm surprised Grass didn't atleast get an interview with Georgia State, I don't know if they reached out to him or not, but he would have been a good fit.
