Interesting WBB Stats from OOC Games
Heading into the MAC, I spent a few minutes looking over the stats from the "pre-season" games and found some interesting things. Granted, the competition was not always that strong, so take these for what they are worth:
- Team as a whole shot 44% from the field. That's on pace for the highest FG% since 2001-02
- 10 of the 12 players who have seen the floor are shooting over 40%, led by McIntyre's 63%.
- Team is shooting 36.7% from beyond the arc, which is on pace for the highest team percentage since 1998-99. Jay-Ann leads at 44.1%.
- Boyd and Santucci both averaging 5.1 assists per game. Many seasons UT has not had 1 player averaging more than 5 assists per game
- Team has an assist-to-TO ration of 1.2, which is higher than any season I have records for
- 9 players have an assist-to-TO ration of 1 or greater, lead by Halee Printz at 2.2. Boyd and Santucci are at 1.8 and 1.5 respectively.
- Boyd and Santucci both averaging more than 2 steals per game.
And here's my favorite stat:
- No player is averaging more than 30 minutes per game. Santucci leads at 29.6
On the negative side, free throw shooting is most troubling. 61.2% is the lower than any season I have records for. Harris and Capotosto both shot FTs very well, so them leaving hurt the team percentage a lot, but interestingly enough, Boyd, Reecher and McIntyre's percentages are all up from last year (although not by leaps and bounds). However, there are still 4 players shooting under 50%.
Looking forward to the MAC season. Exciting team to watch.

Thanks for taking the time to put that information together. Those impressive offensive stats + strong defense = a very good OOC record.

As bad as our SOS was it was way better than most MAC teams, mostly on the shoulders of UCLA and ND. Which is to say we haven't beaten anyone of consequence, Dayton on the road being our signature win. What I have liked is that, for the most part, we've kept our foot on opponent's necks when we got them down (unlike the men) and we've won ugly when we had to (Detroit). BSU will be a decent measuring stick.

I guess the most surprising stat to me was that you did not find any UT-WBB team with an assist:turnover ratio greater than 1.2----probably due to too many TO's rather than too few assists.

Well to be honest, I only have stats back to 98-99. Been looking for Media Guides from before that, but haven't found any yet, and the stats on the website only go back to 99-00.

Very interesting and informative info. Thanks for pulling it all together. Hopefully the assist to TO ratio will improve into MAC play.

I am still surprised---that is 18 seasons. Thanks for your efforts on the original post.
