Exclamation Playoff just for the group of 5 schools?
NIU athletic director says he's in favor of the idea.

Along with MAC schools, Group of 5 schools come from Conference USA and the American, Mountain West and Sun Belt conferences; also includes Army, BYU and UMass.

Here's a link to the ESPN story.

Nah...we'll be the "AAA" of the minor leagues of the non-P5 schools of what used to be the NCAA.

Adopt the soccer approach: UT has some good seasons and we slide into Purdue's slot in the Big Number conference.

In British pro soccer the best teams in a lower division are promoted to a higher division the next season while the worst teams are relegated to the lower division. It's a tangible award with the potential of permanence if you're good enough. Not sure they move in and out of the top league with Chelsea, ManU and the like but they do at least in the other leagues. Can't imagine the SEC or ACC or Big Ten not wanting to prove their worth annually against the best of the G5 with a trip down to the G5 as their negative reinforcement. 03-wink

They do go up to the big league with ManU, Chelsea, etc. Leicester City was the team that won the big league title. In 2008-09 they were in the 3rd league. 2009-14 they were in the 2nd league. 2014 to present they are in the 1st league. I with NCAA would do this. It would be great.

It would be very cool and cost P5 teams a bundle. In other words, it will never happen.

Yeah it is already assumed and implied that the the worst team in the big 5 conferences are unquestionably better than the best teams in the little 5, so why would the big 5 get on board with anything that would undoubtedly refute that.

RE: Playoff just for the group of 5 schools?
The gap between P5 and G5 is on the wane. Not too long ago if MAC team beat a Big 10 team it was the featured story on ESPN. This year, Western beats two big ten schools this year and nobody notices. Without question the Top 6 MAC schools would beat the bottom six Big 10 every time and yet this perception of massive difference still exists.

This joker at NIU is posturing for a job at "next level" and the fact he'll throw his own team under the bus is reprehensible.

I'll bet with Jake Butt's injury there will be many more stars sitting out these bowl games. It is hard to tell what happens to the bowl system. I see this causing changes to the bowl system which I think is currently helping the G5. Exposure for recruiting, extra practices, chance to compete with other G5 teams we don't see often. All that will change I fear and not for the good.

Let's hope WMU knocks off Wisconsin. More fuel for the fire.
