No, it wasn't. It was created to prevent lawsuits. When Utah's AG threatened to sue the BCS circa 5 years ago it basically changed everything. I cannot figure out why people think the Power 5 does some of the things they do out of the goodness of their hearts and is somehow trying to figure out a way to get around paying charity offerings to the G5 and FCS.

I'll say it again: let the top 2 rated G5 teams play for a spot in the Access Bowl. It can be played early in the Bowl season to give the team at least a week or more to prepare, and if Mike Aresco is so sure the AAC is Power 6 and so much better than the rest of the G5 it will only mean they go to more Access Bowls and the rest of the G5 fewer.

LOL, creating the game to keep from being sued is exactly the same thing, a consolation bowl. I never said they did it because they wanted to... do you understand what consolation means?

Just like the FCS? Or how the networks are throwing money at us now?

The only thing that would cause a divide is the P5 wanting to take the money we are getting now for themselves.
The bowls are dying. For traditional powers the playoff has created a lack of interest. Anything else is seen as a disappointment and fans have little interest playing in what they consider consolation games. Especially against teams from what they consider a lesser conference. 1-AA was created by the NCAA, P5 / G5 is a product of the group behind the playoff. If networks see a value in televising a G5 playoff they'll put $ into it. They never had an interest in the 1-AA playoffs.

The bowls are dying? Their would be three or four more today if the NCAA would approve more.

Those bowls are the product of ESPN who is trying to fill time slots in December. Most have lousy attendance and many lose money. ESPN has redifined a bowl from being a reward for a outstanding season to something teams expect for a mediocre season. People not showing up for these 6-6 match ups are cleaqrly voting with their wallets.

We shouldn't care about that. We lived through a period where the SBC had one bowl tie-in and 6-6 P5 teams went bowling leaving 8-4 SBC teams sitting at home. That got solved by a lot of new bowls getting established.

"Too many bowls" is a first-world problem.

P5 fans complain that G5 schools are "not the same" as P5 and should not have the same access to the CFP. But they sure do want to count a home win against us exactly the same for bowl eligibility purposes as a road win against them. If USA goes on the road and beats Mississippi State....it counts the same as Bama beating the dog crap out of someone like FIU at home.

We are already at a big disadvantage trying to get to bowl eligibility compared to them. If someone doesn't want to watch the extra bowls...they can turn it off.

SEC commish tells G5 to "be careful"!

I especially like this part in the article: "If you play these logical questions out even further, there's also this: Why would Power Five teams continue to schedule Group of Five teams in the regular season or bowl games? Alabama coach Nick Saban has been saying for a while he prefers the Power Five play only itself."

Did Mr. Solomon even bother to look at Bama's regular season OOC slate, this year, the last 4 years or the next 4 years? They schedule 1 regular season OOC game against another Money5 team.
