Won 5 of their last 6 against ODU. W&M beat ODU once in my 4 years there. It's a weird feeling to own them.

I don't know how ODU could score 60 against any team that runs a zone defense. They don't have one person that can shoot the ball

Per warrennolan.com, tonight's win moved the CAA from the 12th-ranked conference up to 10th, passing the Missouri Valley and West Coast Conference.

Your RPI moved from outside the Top 200 to # 174.

good win. Hope this gets the team some confidence and a kickstart into conference play

I have no clue as to how this season is going to go, but this much is clear. No CAA opponent looks at the W&M game, and pencils in an automatic "W" (unless the Delaware curse still lives).

14 turnovers...gave up 19 offensive rebounds...Omar with only 5 points...missed 7 FT as usual...BUT Tribe wins by double digits!?! Can't predict ball. Nice to have Mr. Heat Check back. Hope his family gets well soon.

So.....good game with a good match up. We played to their weaknesses and made them take shots outside of their comfort zone (dunks).

Question: Where would ODU be in the CAA? Did we beat a team better or worse than our tough opponents?

I think ODU would be near, but not at, the top of the CAA. At least according to RPI and Sagarin. This was a great great win for us. Let's carry some momentum up to Boston!

Somewhat related, I just looked at ODU's conference schedule, which starts now. Here is their January schedule:

Rice, North Texas, @ Marshall, @ Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, @ Charlotte, @ Rice, @ North Texas

Wow.

Lets pretend that you're a student or an alum. Is there a single game on there that would make you give a damn? I cannot come up with any angle on any game that would get me fired up about ODU hoops.

1. According to http://www.tribeathletics.com/custompage...efinal.pdf it's the 16th time a William & Mary player scored at least 36 points, and it has been done by 11 players. In the twelve seasons 2004-2005 through 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 before today, the only William & Mary player to score at least 36 points was Marcus Thornton, who scored 37 each on December 3, 2014 and March 8, 2015. Five William & Mary players have two games with at least 36, and nobody has more than two such games. In addition to Thornton, Jeff Cohen scored 49 (the team record) and 38 in 1961, Bill Chambers scored 45 and 37 in 1953, Chet Giermak scored 45 and 36 in 1949, and Ron Panneton scored 38 once in 1967 and once in 1968.

2. According to Google Maps, two Conference USA teams are within 500 miles of Norfolk. Charlotte is 319 miles away and Marshall is 458 miles away. Old Dominion goes to Marshall on January 5 and to Charlotte on January 21. Four of Old Dominion's last six road games are in Texas. In addition, because of the teams that have left Conference USA, Conference USA is 26th out of 32 in the Conference RPI, and they're behind the America East that some teams left to join the CAA. Joining Conference USA let Old Dominion play FBS, but it got them in a bad basketball conference.
