12/31 vs Illinois-Springfield
Ok, there is probably one of these games that scares me a little every year, and this year it is this one. NIU coming off an 11 day break after the holidays, probably will be a bit sleepy to start off. Now yes this is not a div 1 team, but from what I can tell, this is an upper level lower level team that is capable of being competitive with NIU. Not saying Illinois-Springfield can pull the upset necessarily, but if NIU does not come out with some focus, I think it could be an uncomfortably close game. Hopefully NIU shakes off the rust.

Just the 11 day break combined with the holidays, it kind of spells a possible problem in my eyes. As long as NIU treats the game with even some respect it shouldn't be a problem. However, if NIU comes out like they did vs Olivet in the first half, there could be an issue in my opinion.

Illinois Springfield last played on December 16th when they lost 92-79 at Glenview State College.

Oh wow I didn't see that result. I know they only lost to Bradley by 15 earlier this year. They probably are better offensively it sounds like than your typical sub-div 1 school.

This game better not be a problem. I expect to see the young players get some more experience before the MAC season starts and Monte will work on his rotation.

I know the scores don't mean much but UIS lost to NW by nearly 40 in the opening exhibition but only lost by 15 to Bradley in a game that counts for Bradley (doesn't count against UIS plus our game is an exhibition for them too). NW then only beats Chicago St by 3 or 4 while Bradley crushed them by over 30. Not really a good gauge of UIS but goes to show that scores don't mean much even against common opponents.

Yeah, but isn't Glenview State the best team of all of them within 8 minutes of O'Hare? Springfield probably just looked past them.

I can confirm that Porter is still on the team. Also, the whole team has had a ass chewing about attitude form Frazier. This is most likely Porter's last chance.

Shouldn't Monty be doing that?

Frazier most likely in addition to Monty talking to the boys. I personally don't feel that Monty is hard enough on his guys. He will discipline them if they screw up off the court but I don't get the impression that he's that hard on them when they make mistakes in practice. Just my opinion feel free to disagree. I don't believe there is a coach on the staff that really chews their ass when they screw up on basketball related things. I personally believe it's a problem. I personally believe they are a soft program because of it.

I was encouraged that Porter got suspended and that Monty is taking control. I personally do not think Porter deserves another chance, but I am glad to hear its the very last chance.

RE: 12/31 vs Illinois-Springfield
With the recent developments of our AD, I am starting to wonder if the aggressive soft team scheduling for bball non-conf is just another tactic he tried to employ to get out of here. He could say he "turned NIU bball around" Maybe Coach Monty was not to blame for this.

Porter is back practicing with team. Suspension ended 12/26. We will see how it will effect team chemistry.

Agree. I really hope he has a very limited role until he goes an extended period (say the rest of this season) of not throwing tantrums and playing in a team framework
