RE: 12/31 vs Illinois-Springfield
I think there was a purpose for Montgomery coming out this publicly. Like someone mentioned, it is not a good thing for the program to part ways with a player and there has to be a good reason. This seems like it was a transparency move to allow people to see there was a progression if he ends up being booted.

I think you're right. Monte will still have to recruit in Illinois and Porter is one of only a few Illinois recruits. Monte doesn't want to give off the impression that he ran off a local player without good reason.

Yep.
Especially when you have the player doing the "woe is me" on social media.

NIU up by 3 at half. Ouch. Shooting 43% and getting beat up on the boards

Huskies only up by 10 at the under 4 timeout, Porter seeing some action late. Offense really looks like it is going to be like squeezing juice from an orange this conference season.

RE: 12/31 vs Illinois-Springfield
Huskies win by a relatively small margin 77-62 given the opponent. Biggest concern for me looking at numbers is rebounding and shooting under 48% against this opponent. With an 11 day break and conference slate starting in 3 days, this might be a forgivable blah performance. Something will have to change offensively though for NIU to have a winning record in conference play.

Oh my, I can't believe NIU hoops struggled with UIS. I live in Springfield and and UIS loses all the time to other D-II and D-III opponents by large margins. Without seeing the game, this score is disconcerting.

Looks like they also lost to Bradley by 15, but this year's Bradley is pretty bad

Huskies were fine! Good to see in only 11 minutes Wilson hitting 3's. Bradley and Pauga both hit one they were good at 3's last year. Huskies will need them hitting 3's in MAC play. Porter was very good in his short time on the court.

Huskies appear to be a poor 3 point shooting team. Their continued misses from beyond the arc were a large reason UIS was able to stay close in the first half.

Glancing at Stats:

From the field:

Armstead 3 of 16

Key 5 of 5 and Wilson 7 of 8
Total: 12 of 13

You don't have to be John Wooden or Tom Izzo to figure out who should be getting more shots.

Thxjoenovak, you are reading the stats wrong. Armstead was 2-12 and Wilson was 4-5. The three point shots are included in the field goal stats. Example: Wilson was 4-5fg and 3-3 from 3pt, that means he took a total of 5 not 8 shots. He made 3 three pointers and one two point basket. At the end of the non-conference schedule the worst five shooters are Pauga then Armstead then McCarthy then Wilson then Bradley

The Armstead situation is always a tough one, for NIU to be successful, seems like he has to be successful. I don't think NIU will have enough offense on most nights if Armstead doesn't moderately contribute. But of course the negative, he gets cold at times.

Armstead had 5rbs, 4assist, 3-4ft a block and a steal. That's pretty good but he needs to shoot less and start making more shots. He should by now be a 12-16pt scorer. He is a good defender but he's not going to stop someone from getting their shots up

And attack the basket more. No more of the fake 3, move 2 feet closer inside the 3 point line and shoot. That is maddening when he does that.

Thanks for the reminder ...I forgot about that.
Stats are not as extreme as I posted. I'll try and be more accurate in the New Year! 04-cheers
