The overall problems there didn't come directly from players but friends and other students sliding in there with them. Some were very intoxicated and made it look bad on the baseball team.
I loved the baseball players being there and the problems were few in my mind compared to what they created. Did see a few things that were out of line but nothing that warranted kicking them out of there but maybe I missed some stuff. They also helped fire up the east side bleachers. It was an absolute zoo for visiting teams to be stuck on that end with the baseball team giving them grief.
I do remember those guys being fun and rowdy. I hope they can reorganize

The problems may have been few, but they reflected on the baseball program. The last straw was probably when a drunk student yelling to coach Capel that his sons were so tall that his wife must have been with someone else. Capel approached the student very angry. I had to step in front of him. Capel told the student he could say anything he wanted to say about him or his players, but not his family. I had to escort the drunk student out.

All I know is someone needs to pass down the old Heckler's Bible to them for inspiration.

That is out of line but I gotta say I have heard a lot worse at games. Capel has to be a little tougher than that . I am sure the student did not use the same words that you did!

RE: Student Section in Trask
The reason Trask became 'the toughest place to play in the CAA' was simply because students showed up. During the Brownell years, students made sure to get their tickets early at the union otherwise they likely had to sneak in. That, in turn, ensured there was always standing room only across the entirety of the bleachers. A great atmosphere for 40mins+ of basketball.
Tough to duplicate now with the roped off sections behind the benches, but overall the changes don't bother me. Wouldn't mind seeing the pep band add to their #s though. The high school band in there the other day was more entertaining than our guys. Go hard or go home...

It will not ever be the same place again but it can be better if they show up in force. I think the student of 2016 is much different than 2005 or so and you will have to maintain excellence to win them over. A greater percentage just don't care about attending sporting events these days and it is not just a Trask/UNCW deal by any means. Part of it could the absolute glut of TV sports these days -you can watch almost any game you want on TV. I think these students have more going on outside of the sporting arena coupled with a I don't care attitude to boot. Much bigger population in the area over 2000-2006 should be a plus.

Not really,I enjoy the freedom they express in living how they want but they are a little different bird for sure. I have nephews and nieces that fit into that group and you gotta respect them for what they are-different.
One of the small differences is a thing called cable TV-not a chance they would ever pay for that and they call me sucker for staying with it! Vegan lifestyle, rent not buy, change jobs at the drop of a hat, etc.

These same students came out in pretty big numbers to see UNCW play Duke on the big screen at Trask.

Change Trask back! Butts are back in the seats, time to go back to the old seating set-up. Give the students the entire side of bleachers and move the teams back over to the other side.

Yea, very easy switch that costs no $. More intimidating for visitors to stare directly at the student section for 40 min. Harder to heckle sitting among visiting players families in the roped off section.

One question. Do visiting teams have a right to a certain number of seats behind their bench? Because, if they do, UNCW would have to give up some high dollar reserved seats to accommodate, and I doubt they would do that.

I don't know if it's a rule but it's certainly at least a strong custom that is not going to change
The benches are not moving back
I've given the students grief but now the admin needs to step up. No more forcing students upstairs. There is plenty of room downstairs for them. The student section downstairs can hold more than they are allowing

WAsn't there yesterday, but it looked like the biggest crowd i've seen in a long time on TV. Every commercial they panned the upper deck and it was packed too.

Yes each team players get tickets to give to family or friends. I think some students prefer to sit upstairs
