RE: Tacko Tuesday ECU @ UCF game thread
I thought Lebo called a good game against UCF. He game planned against Tacko using players with size/experience and it worked. This is the first game this year he hasn't scored.
Other UCF players who typically contribute some points (Efianayi and Banyard) had one point between them (and AJ Davis only had 4), so the defense was very stout.
They also locked down on Matt Williams (2-8 on 3-pointers) trying to force someone else to win the game for us. Luckily we had BJ Taylor back and he willed us to the win.
I don't know if ECU's shooters are always that cold, but they sure got hot late in the game with those threes to make it too close for my comfort.

ECU has several players that are actually pretty good. The problem is that Lebo is coaching them. ECU is not a half court team, but Lebo is making them play half court basketball when he knows that they can't shoot well enough to play that brand of basketball. ECU actually plays a lot better when they press and try to play uptempo, but Lebo won't do that until ECU is down at least 25 points and there are only 2 minutes left in the game. Lebo is a just a bad coach.

Let's just credit ECU's defense.
Has ecu been a strong defense statistically all year?
Lmfao what a douche. The announcers only said it 5,000 times
I was at the game so I couldn't hear what the announcers said and I don't keep up with ecu basketball so I wouldn't know.

I recorded it last night and started watching around midnight. Was about to turn it off with around 10 minutes left and fast forwarded to make sure. Saw that ecu started to go on a run. Spent like 20 more minutes watching whatever that ending was.
How to beat UCF in 3 easy steps:
1. Make Free Throws
2. Make Mid-Range jumpers
3. Press
Probably can win with just step 3 honestly
That is easy, you should be a D1 coach or something.

I still think UCF is a good team -- probably NIT, but maybe a bubble team. Last night hurt my eyes though.

We are now at 57 RPI. We need to do really well in league play to have any chance.

Both teams and their coaches should be banned from ever stepping onto another basketball court. None of them deserve to play another game...ever. They should just turn in their uniforms and walk away from this game. Fcking embarrassing.

Please don't compare Dawkins to Lebo. There is no comparison there.

Agreed but for different reasons. You probably like most AAC random fans have no idea the chronic disease that much of the ECU fan base suffers from this time of year and it is called ACC bandwagon homerism.
It is sad and pathetic but this time of year ECU has way too many fans, students, alumni etc.. who divide their allegiance between UNC and Duke during Basketball season so Lebo and Dawkins will both have their supporters and detractors based more on what school they played for then their results on the court as a coach.
I spent enough time in NC visiting family over the years before attending ECU to know it is a hard habit to break. Kids are indoctrinated from an early age to root for one ACC Basketball school or another. The ACC Tournament used to practically shut schools down so kids and teachers could watch. Some teachers did in fact pull TV's into the classroom to watch certain games. When I was a student at ECU I can remember the UNC National Championship in 94 being celebrated downtown in the bars big time and tv viewing parties all over off campus housing during the ACC Tournament or big games in the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately this whole ACC indoctrination plays into why ECU has never gotten it going in Basketball. Way too much or our fan base is completely happy to accept the poor level of ECU play since they pull for Duke, UNC, NCST or Wake this time of year anyway. On the flip side NC is a Basketball crazy State so if ECU could ever put a decent team together Minges would be packed but until we get a decent Coach and recruit better we will continue to see this same cycle over and over
For the record I would not walk across the street to piss on Duke or UNC if their campus was on fire but based on Lebo's mediocre Coaching Career I am guessing Dawkins has more upside but that is not saying much

What does fan allegiance to ACC schools have to do with our coaches being compared? I agree that it's hard to build support for a team when fans are already emotionally committed to other schools, but I don't think that much to do with the coaches or this discussion.
While our game against ECU was hard to watch, many UCF fans are realistic about our chances this year due to depth. We're just excited to see our team run real plays, play tough defense, and generally not shoot themselves in the foot (other than the stupid unforced turnovers seen in the ECU game). All of this is due to Johnny Dawkins. We are already seeing a huge difference in attitude and effort in our team since his arrival, so we're excited to see what he can do once he recruits "his" players and has a full roster available. After the slop the Donnie Jones put out there year after year, any improvement is great.

I was just simply bemoaning the fact that most ECU fans see Johnny Dawkins and Coach Lebo through the prism of what ACC school they attended. For the ECU fans that are closet UNC fans they were hoping a branch from the Dean Smith Coaching Tree was going to save us and the ECU fans that pull for Duke are actually harder on Lebo because they hate UNC and would rather see a Coach K disciple come coach at ECU and if Dawkins is successful at UCF they will just point to that as to why we should look for an ex Duke player or Coach as our answer.
For the rare ECU fans such as myself who don't give two craps about ACC Basketball, we just want somebody to come in and make ECU competitive and could care less who does is but if I had my choice it would be a non Tobacco Road former player or Coach just so the whole fan base would rally around them.
