He won an Academy Award (supporting actor) and was nominated two other times. But I think he's most well known for appearing on the Mission Impossible TV show, and an early supporting role in a superb Hitchcock film, North by Northwest.
He have been in a lot of movies and tv shows in his long career. I still think he was still working as we speak. I know Norman Lloyd is still working, and he is over 100 years old. Can't believe how they still act at these ages anymore. Usually, Hollywood say they are too old to even cast in parts.
Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park, kills himself at age 41. A lot of rock stars killing themselves over depression/substance abuse. Very sad. Makes this song which was just released this year all that significant.
I just don't have any sympathy for celebrities who commit suicide. I hate that their talents will no longer be shared with the world... but I'm sorry - they have rehab, antidepressants, and millions of dollars at their disposal. Suck it up and don't be so damn self absorbed.
June Foray dies at age 99, 2 months shy of her 100th birthday. She was a legendary voice actor with way too many roles to list all here. But she was probably best known for being Rocky on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show, and Granny in the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

She was also Natasha Fatale on the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, Witch Hazel in the Bugs Bunny cartoon, and Jokey Smurf in The Smurfs. She was also Lucifer the cat in the old Disney Cinderella cartoon movie.

Lyle Smith who lead Boise State to win many games at the Junior College which they continued winning to this day have died at the age of 101. He was also the AD at Boise State.
Sam Shepard checked out yesterday at age 73 (same as me). He was one of my favorites from his role of Chuck Yeager in "The Right Stuff" to "Bloodlines."
I didn't know he had ALS but maybe that explains why he was written out of "Bloodlines" when he clearly was the best part of that show.
A couple more sports deaths the last two days - both from the world of baseball. Darren Daulton (Phillies catcher) dies at the age of 55 (brain cancer). And today Don Baylor (long time player and manager) dies at 68. RIP.
Was just going to post about Baylor. Really admired that guy. Very good player, tough (holds some record for most times hit by pitch) but was said to be a great guy, very thoughtful and loved by the players he managed. Succumbed after a long battle with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer).
R.I.P.

A couple more deaths of note today. Glen Campbell lost his battle with Alzheimer's. I highly recommend watching the documentary on him (it's probably still on Netflix - I know that's where I saw it - I think it's called I'm Still Here or something like that). It talks about his early diagnosis of Alzheimer's and how he planned on living his life as normal as he could despite the diagnosis.
Also Barbara Cook who is probably not too well known to most of you died at age 89. She was a legendary Broadway performer in the 1950's and was pretty much the Julie Andrews of that decade.
And Dick MacPherson died as well, keeping the unfortunate streak of sports deaths going. He was the head football coach at Syracuse in the 1980's, and also coached the New England Patriots for two years.
Sorry to be shirking my duties but I was out of the country for a week (and apparently DavidSt has been banished from this room?).
Honestly not a ton of notable deaths while I was gone (sorry if I'm demeaning anyone by lumping them into the minor celebrity category). But comedian/civil rights activist Dick Gregory died yesterday. Frank Broyles (Arkansas football coach and athletic director) died - never was a fan of him anyway because he was pretty rude to Rice when we were in the same conference as Arkansas. And then actor Joseph Bologna died too during this past week. He was in quite a few movies but I remember him the most somehow from a short-lived TV show he starred in with a very young Matt LeBlanc in his pre-Friends days.
RIP to all and any who may have not made the cut.

Comedian Jerry Lewis died today at the age of 91. His career was remarkably long, dating back to the 1940's starting with the films with Dean Martin, but then he had a long, successful solo career as well. And he was to be greatly admired for his work with the MDA telethons every Labor Day Weekend.
Actor Jon Shepodd have died. Played Paul Martin on Lassie in 1954. His tv wife was Cloris Leachman on the show. Bad year for Cloris to lose two co-stars in the same year.
Rockabilly singer Sonny Burgess who opened for Elvis died. He was also from Arkansas.
Actor and TV Host Sir Bruce Forsyth. He was best known for the Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks starring Angela Lansbury.
Actor Sonny Landham died. He was in Predator with Arnold and Jesse Ventura.
Goldy McJohn keyboardist for Steppenwolf died. Their hit song is still being used in movies these days. Born To Be Wild.
Tom Hawkins NBA player ded.
Lester Williams NFL player
Jo Walker-Meador country singer
Joi "SJ" Harris first African American female moto Grand Prix rider died on her first job as a stunt woman practicing for a stunt on the set of Dead Pool 2.
Katherine McEnroe, mother of tennis champ John Mcenroe.
Natalie Cole's son died.
Don Johnson's father died.
Haruo Nakajima played the first Godzilla in the rubber suit in the old movies died. Yes, no CGI crap back then.
Last time I was down South I walked into this restaurant and this white waitress came up to me and said, "We don't serve colored people here." I said, "That's all right. I don't eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken."
Then these three white boys came up to me and said, "Boy, we're giving you fair warning. Anything you do to that chicken, we're gonna do to you." So I put down my knife and fork, I picked up that chicken and I kissed it. Then I said, "Line up, boys!"
