Peggy Lipton dies at 72 from cancer. She was in the Mod Squad back in the 70's and then Twin Peaks in the 90's was another big success for her. She was also married to Quincy Jones for a long time, and had two daughters with him (Rashida Jones is a pretty successful actress in her own right).

Peggy Lipton returned to reprised her role in the Twin Peaks return online. Many Twin Peaks stars died recently like the log lady and David Bowie.

Doris Day - born in Cincinnati in 1922.

Doris Day, whose wholesome screen presence stood for a time of innocence in ’60s films, has died. She was 97 years old.

Que Sera Sera? I don't think that's the answer to your question. At least I don't think it is but it's her trademark song. I know she was in The Man Who Knew Too Much but I don't know if there is a song from that movie that won Best Song (and I don't want to cheat and look it up).

BTW her bio on wikipedia says she was one of the last surviving stars of Hollywood's Golden Age (for awhile, she was the top-grossing female box office star in history). I'm trying to offhand think of which stars from that era remain. Kirk Douglas is the only one that comes to mind but I'm guessing there are a few others (basically someone who starred in movies no later than the 1950s).

I had to investigate after the question and that is the correct answer - "Que Sera Sera". "Secret Love" from "Calamity Jane" also won an Oscar.

Pay the man the money. Good guess. "Que Sera, Sera" from "The Man Who Knew Too Much." And it was actually integral to the plot of the movie. To me, that is kind of a quintessential song of the 50s.

As for stars of the 50s still around, Sopia Loren comes to mind. Of course, she was very young back then. My first movie star crush, after seeing "Boy on a Dolphin."

She was a Big Band singer before Hollywood. My favorite of hers was always "Sentimental Journey." She was always easy on the eyes and ears and endearing. I'm having one of those sentimental journeys now. Thank you Doris!

Dancer and actress, Norma Miller dead at 99. The Marx Brothers movie A Day At The Races was her first acting gig, but did one other movie in the early 40s before a long break when she was a guess star on Sanford and Son as Grady's girl friend. She is a pretty good dancer for the Lindy Hop.

There's an ad for the reruns of the Carol Burnett show. Carol Burnett says they were on Saturday night following (think I'm remembering it correctly):
All in the Family
MASH
Mary Tyler Moore
Bob Newhart

Powerhouse lineup.

That sounds right, and you are correct, it was a powerhouse lineup.

Of course, I still remember Conway as Ensign Parker.

I looked it up because that didn't seem right to me. There was one season (1973-74 - Mash's 2nd year on the air) where it was that lineup. And airing after All in the Family helped Mash get a loyal audience which would carry it through the next decade.

But mostly, Mash was on different nights (Sunday, Tuesday, Friday and then Mondays where it was the last few years). There were different shows on Saturday but one of the main ones during that time frame was The Jeffersons.

Growing up, Saturday night was definitely CBS must-see TV.

RIP Tim Conway, one of the funniest men ever on network TV. But please no one post any Dorf videos.
