Sidewalk fan seems kind of derogatory. My mom and dad and brother, and many other relatives, all graduated from Marshall. They didn't offer my major, so I went elsewhere. But I've been a fan since I was about 5. That's 42 years. Not like I just walked up one day and decided to see what was in the big concrete thingy downtown.

Just checked back into the thread...Thanks to everyone for all of the feedback so far. A couple of observations...Surprised at all of the Advanced Degrees among posters. Also, REALLY surprised at how sensitive some are about labels or terms used to describe others...Maybe it's just a reflection of our society today.

Again, I just was curious if posters here were tied to the school as former students or other circumstances. State U's have so many bandwagon (just a term ?) fans with no direct tie to the school other than growing up rooting for that school. The poll so far, shows a direct student tie to most of the responses. I just find that interesting. THANKS!!

On this forum you'll get mostly direct ties. Walk around Walmart and ask fans in shirts you will probably get different results that probably match a national scene.

The reason why I was curious...The big flagship state U's typically have that fanbase that never went to school there. I wondered how similar/different that is for the CUSA/G5 schools. That's all. I was just trying to keep the poll and question simple and direct...as I stated, no judging.

You either went to school there or you didn't. Not a bad thing if you didn't. With that said, I will profess that it drives me crazy for someone who DOES attend/graduate from a school, but root for another.

An example that I DETEST...WKU student who roots for sUcK!!

I chose "sidewalk" simply because I did take classes at South but didn't earn my degree from there (USA just happens to be the ONLY school I've earned credits with that has an FBS team). Your poll doesn't allow for a third choice (i.e., "Other", or even more sophisticated choices). Nevertheless, I find these results to be interesting as well as many others in this thread apparently.
