Kalen DeBoer going to Fresno State
Per Footballscoop on Twitter.

Looks like we will have a new OC next year.

OL coach Ryan Grubb going as well.

Congrats to them. Tough news for us. Here's to hoping they can bring in someone that keeps the offense rolling while coaching the o line up next year.

Kalen DeBoer going to Fresno State
Need to find a solid replacement who is able to utilize the talent we have on the roster. Lots and lots of playmakers returning next year.

RE: Kalen DeBoer going to Fresno State
To be honest, I'm more concerned about Grubb leaving the OL than DeBoer. It might have been time for a shake up on offensive play calling anyway; especially since we've gone to Roback and he's less of a dual-threat. But Grubb has been able to provide consistency for the OL. Like Eagle King said, we need a high quality replacement.

We could likely lose another assistant or two before spring ball.

I fear losing some top def. coaches.

Losing coaches is the price we'll have to play.

RE: Kalen DeBoer going to Fresno State
Last night Wikipedia already had DeBoer at Fresno.

This is too bad. Last week one of the guys on radio here that is an MSU fan was griping that they couldn't get a good OC if they were only willing to spend $400,000. Unbelievable.

Not all that concerned about Grubb, he had a bunch of Seniors, not sure it was his coaching.

DeBoer we'll see. Can't argue the stats, but often inconsistent, and butted heads with Roback. His short yardage play calling was a serious weakness as well.

Can't go backwards to some pro-style OC. Would be nice to add a young, innovative guy, and 2 replacements that are much better recruiters than the 2 leaving.

Creighton being put to the test to make the right hire, and keep Grissom commited.

RE: Kalen DeBoer going to Fresno State
Of course it would be great getting an experienced successful offensive coordinator to lead us next year. However, a diamond could be a Highschool coach and we have one in our own back yard that runs the EMU Offense at Saline Highschool. I'll never forget my son's senior year in 2012 when coach Palka got hired two weeks before the pre-season started. Coach Palka had a parent meeting after a week of non contact drills and instead of trying to buy time by telling everyone it will take a season or two to get the system in place, Palka stands up in front of 50-75 parents and tells everyone "I've made an assessment of the talent here in Saline and we are going to win this season".

That was an impressive announcement to make considering Saline's best season was like 3-6 wins per season if I remember correctly. At any rate, Palka implements this Run Pass Option offense and Saline ends up winning the SEC (a first), winning districts (a first), and only losing to Detroit Cass Tech by 5 points. Saline was actually driving down to win the game but thru a pick as time was running out. Saline was overmatched against Cass Tech (11 D1 players, Webb, our own Taquan Pace, the all American CB at UoM, etc, etc). He's also groomed D1 players - their QB signed with Virginia Tech, their tight end signed with ASU....... He should be a candidate.

DeBoer was always at little too conservative for my tastes, anyway.

Play calling yesterday was less than superb. Having said that, DeBoer helped get EMU to the bowl game.

Losing assistant coaches is the mark of a healthy program, and we should be flattered.

I kinda think he did a good job working with the talent he had. Face it, this year EMU did not have many home run hitters. They did have a mix of solid contributors though.

That said, I do think the offense was a little too conservative in the bowl game. They should of put the foot on the gas and airred it out more.

EMU has a very good group of offensive players returning. That will help attract a good OC.

Dear Kurt Anderson,

I hope all is well. I'm writing in hopes that you might consider leaving Arkansas and coming back to EMU to run the Offensive Line. Pretty please?

Sincerely,

KPJ

You're absolutely right that next year we have to take advantage of having a good experienced QB. That's why it is imperative to replace the seniors from the OL.

After having trouble establishing a QB at that position, we have one with the arm, skills and experience to succeed big in 2017.

We know who the QB will be, who the receivers will be, the running backs will be, etc.

The OL will make or break the offense in 2017.

I don't know anyone who disagrees with that last statement.

My thought exactly. He's 1 of 22, and average to poor without a good Oline, as we all know. The endzone pick again!

Perfect offense for Brogan and our returning starters would be something similar to the Baylor & Tulsa scheme. Spread concept, 50/50 run/pass, with lots of deep shots.

Huge hire that we need to announce asap, especially for Grissom & recruiting.

I agree with the spread concept as we have a lot of receivers who can catch it.

That might make it better for what will probably be a green OL next year.

I still maintain too many folks are underestimating Roback the way Lions' fans underestimated Stafford. (I've always like Stafford more than the typical Lions' fan).

Not sure most MAC QBs can make the throws that Roback can... (with a good OL, Roback is the best QB in the MAC next year?).

EDIT: Forgot that Woodside at UT will be back. Roback is my #2 MAC QB.
