If UNC-CH was UNC-A, UNC-C, UNC-G or UNC-W, What punishment would they get?
from the NCAA? I'm sure they'll still get some kind of slap on the wrist but if they were an average, not connected program, what kind of punishment would they receive?

None, because the NCAA would understand that the issue was academic and not athletic and the NCAA has no jurisdiction in the matter.

It's not UNC-A, UNC-W, UNC-C, or UNC-G. It's UNCA, UNCW, Charlotte, or UNCG.
We hate that hyphen more than anything.
But yes, the mid major UNC system schools would get hammered. Not many years ago UNCW was thoroughly hammered for our men's basketball program's academics. And we weren't creating fake classes, so there's that.

Academic fraud is indeed relevant to the jurisdiction of the NCAA if players played who otherwise should have been ineligible.
Georgia Tech got probation for a *** **** set of aquarium tickets and a t-shirt given to Demaryius Thomas by a fan who worked at the Georgia Aquarium. PROBATION FOR $50 IN FREEBIES FROM A MOFO FAN. And Thomas paid that back. But because Dan Radakovich, current AD at Clemson and then AD at GT, told Demaryius Thomas to tell the truth and cooperate with the NCAA in full, they considered that tampering with an investigation.
BUT HEY, no problem if you're Clemson buying football players cars to win a title in '82. BUT HEY, no problem if you're funneling players so academically inept they're ILLITERATE through the University of Georgia so you can win a title in '80. BUT HEY, no problem if you're Miami and you want to set cash bounties on injury of opponents. BUT HEY, no problem if you're UNC and you just f'n make classes up out of thin air. BUT HEY, no problem if you're Jim Harrick at UGA and you give players a 4.0 on a class you teach as head coach where the final exam has such hum-dingers as "How many points is a 3-pointer worth?".
**** the NCAA and their blatant hypocrisy for the bottom line and protecting big brands. They are the most intellectually bankrupt bureaucratic waste of money outside of Washington DC. Save maybe the SPLC or CSPI, which gives the NCAA a run for its money.
If we're really going to start enforcing things evenly across the board then about 1/3 of the SEC should already have the death penalty in football, and like a dozen National Championship trophies in football and men's basketball in just the last 20-30 years will have to be handed back over. And yes, UNC should totally lose accreditation and be barred from receiving any federal scholarship money for a probationary period measured in years. But they won't because their fellow progressive pajama boy snuggle buddies in academia look after each other. I can almost hear the DoE now ... "UNC is too big to fail!"

You forgot the part where PSU pretty much got off free after a PSU football coach R**** kids and other PSU admins/coaches covered it up, because an organization that was originally founded for the sole purpose of promoting safety in college football (the NCAA) "didn't have jurisdiction."
Let's not forget that the 2nd NCAA NoA was basically going to punish UNC women's basketball for the sins of the entire school, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo! UNC had to appeal that, so now the NCAA is basically saying "OK, let's go back to the first NoA where we were going to stick it to the football and men's basketball teams".

Leave Clemson out of your rant. We got hammered by the NCAA, and had the lovely little ole ACC led by UNC and Duke add on an extra year of probation because the scandal negatively impacted the ACC's reputation.
Now, however, from UNC it is pretty much "Move along! Nothing to see here"
Older Clemson fans will never forget the ACC piling on when we were hammered. Only two members stood up for us to not receive any extra penalty: Wake Forest and Maryland. Everyone else went along with the effort spearheaded by UNC and Duke. It is why Swofford has been booed when presenting the ACC trophy to Clemson on two occassions. (Ponder had no idea what was going on. She asked why everyone was booing, and Dabo had to come up with some platitude to hide the real reason).

@ Swofford boo'ed. I think Dabo really knew and asked John "is that for you?" when his head was turned away before Ponder started being confused. Disappointed the fans didn't yell "Swofford!" in response.

It has long been debunked that Swofford engineered your second year. He had not been in place long enough. IIRC, the actual details of the second year stem from the ACC's committee system and Clemson's lack of an appeal to the appropriate committee. Most of these committees were populated with people below the level of AD or Chancellor.
There are thousands of reasons to hate Swofford, but if you think he ran UNC athletics to include football and men's basketball, you don't know how UNC worked back then.

It was a committe of faculty that also broke procedure when they tacked on the extra penalty because Clemson was not allowed to address the proceeding.
It has long been believed by connected people that the committee's actions were the result of UNC and, to a lesser extent, Duke's AD departments.
But, whatever. Clemson accepted the extra year without sueing over the technicality on the procedure. Wonder if UNC will do the same with the NCAA?
