Tulsa Football 2016: A Year for the Record Books
Tulsa football is BACK! With a 10-3 season record capped off with a blow out bowl victory Tulsa has returned to prominence! I just wanted to take a minute to put a little review on the season and share the accomplishments of this team.

The season included 3 overtime victories and 2 close losses to ranked teams. I think that shows how differently the season could have been either way. Going into the season I figured we could have anywhere from 6 to 10 regular season wins. Which if we lost the 3 overtime games we would have finished 6-6. But if we had won the 2 close games against Navy and UH we would have finished 11-1. That's kinda crazy. And if you throw in a conference title win and a bowl win that's 13-1. It was a special season that maybe could have been even more special with a couple of breaks.

Speaking of breaks, this offense broke or tied a lot of records this season and even created one that had never been done before. Here's a list of the records:

James Flanders: Broke School Single Season Rushing Record with 1,629 yards. And did it with De'Angelo Brewer rusing for 1,435 yards this year.

Keevan Lucas: Tied School Career TD receptions with 32. Tied with football greats Steve Largent (NFL) and Howard Twilley (Heisman Runner-up).

Dane Evans: Broke School Career Records in pass completions (904), attempts (1,567), yards (11,680), touchdowns (84), and career yardage (11,752). He also had 3,000 passing yards three times (school record) and had a school-record 16 300-yard passing games.

And of course the big one:

This team has a lot of fun, and is a joy to watch. Who knows what the future holds, but hopefully we can enjoy this kind of fun and excitement at 11th and Harvard for years to come!

Here's a link to the post bowl game celebration videos. The team goes crazy. Coach Monty breaks it down. And let's just say....our AD can dance better than yours!

That photo is flawed. I was going to use it as a signature, but Keevan's yard total is the same as Brewer's. In reality it's closer to 1,100.

It's 1180.

That's weird since TU created that image.
UGH, figures...

Sorry, didn't know. I'm sure they'll have it right when they put it up as a big mural somewhere (because it'd be a shame if they didn't put it up).

Appalachian State was the first team in FBS (D-1A) history to win a bowl game in their first two eligible seasons and were the first (now shared with Georgia Southern) to win a bowl game in their first eligible season.

Not bad for a P7 conference team.

And Tulsa was the first to go to 5 straight New Years Day bowls. Cool beans.

And App was the first in the modern era to win three straight (true) National Championships.

By true I mean tournament system as opposed to algorithm based.

P7 football is best though.

When you have to win 12 playoff games in a row, as well as win during the regular season, you play plenty of people.

One example could be Joe Flacco. Another could be Chad Henne, Jake Long et al.

At any rate, Tulsa's offensive numbers are staggering. It's a real shame the P6 couldn't put Tulsa in a better bowl game considering all of their statistics. Or maybe their statistics didn't actually translate to wins? 07-coffee3

Blown calls screwed Tulsa this season. That's OK, we'll be out for blood again next year.

Modern era. How quaint.

Army won 3 National Championships in a row against killer schedules. So did Minnesota.

But tout those FCS titles. 07-coffee3

I'm happy to report that ECU did not embarrass the conference by losing a bowl game to a G4 school this season.

That is all.

Since we're talking about records, in 2007, Tulsa was the first team to have a 5,000-yard passer, three 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher. That happened under QB Paul Smith who held a lot of the records Dane Evans broke.
