Maybe walker needs to stop shooting. This is bad basketball. This team is going to get trounced in the MAC With all these injuries, OSU is a bottom tier MAC team. We have a long year ahead of us

Honestly, I think this is the most embarrassed I've ever been of a Kent St. team.

One of the worst games I have seen Kent play in a number of years and for Senderhoff to leave Walker in the game is beyond belief. UGH Terrible coaching.

We just got killed by one of the worst D1 teams I have ever, ever seen. I am so disappointed in the results. I have been a fan of Sendy and I hate to say it, but this team does not look coached. I am just puzzled. Can anyone help me?

Everything up to January 3rd was supposed to be getting ready for MAC play. Well, unless something really clicks in the next dozen days, they will be a sub-.500 MAC team for the second time in four seasons. Prior to this, you have to go back twenty years, to when Gary Waters was just starting to build the program with mainly his own players. Senderoff isn't much above .500 in MAC play (50-43, counting the MAC tournament games). This is his 6th season. Just wondering.

RE: Kent State @ Oregon State
First thought...This is a team without a point guard. This is not a new problem. Whether its over-recruiting athletic guards that Senderoff tries to force into point guard duty or its bringing in kids like Avery and making no real commitment to them, it stinks. It stinks that there is no facilitator to help calm down the offense and find ways to attack a zone.

Second thought...Jaylin Walker, as it stands right now, could be a nice 6th or 7th man. A spark for 2 or 3 minute stretches...find nights when he is hot. A great looking athlete to be sure, but in the last two games he simply forces the action. Last night he continuously hurt his team but the minutes were not pulled from him.

Third thought...That was a bad basketball team that beat Kent State down last night. Lots of factors, I understand. But my god.

Beat Texas!

That has to be the worst box score I've every seen - 1-24 shooting 3s? 38.9% shooting free throws?

I just have to tell myself, we didn't expect much this year with all the new players. next year, it should be better.

I don't know how you can go 1-24 shooting 3s. If you shot blindfolded, you'd get more than that.

Agree Fallsdog. Athleticism is great but eventually all that matters is how good one is as a "basketball player", and all that entails. And the most important skill a basketball player needs is to shoot. I think I saw that they shot less than 30% from the floor last night and less than 40% from the line. That is completely unacceptable. I don't want to bash the coach, but ultimately the coach IS responsible for who is on the team.

Last night was not a coaching issue. It was DI basketball players playing poorly. They were the ones taking shots out of rhythm and bricking the others, too. Players have to execute. Ours did not. Sendy did not miss a free throw or an easy putback under the basket. I promise you every guy wearing a suit and tie on our bench would never shoot 2% from 3. Every one of the guys should be humiliated and embarrassed today.

The sad thing is, they wasted a pretty good defensive performance.

Brad Daughtery had the funniest quote on Walker. He's a "volume Shooter". Translation he's a chucker, ball hog, never met a shot he didn't like.

Likely getting a new AD this summer so Sendy is safe for this year but next year will be his evaluation year. So if you're going to be bad for next 1.5 years at least be young and build something. IMO avery, A walker, pippen, Peterson, De La Rose and J walker need at least 15-24 minutes a night. At the end of next season Sendy can at least point to a reasonable future. I'm ok with Hall Ridenour and Edwin but build something longer term.

Zabo and DeBerry should be down with Fleming. They aren't any better than the freshmen and sophmores and only have 1.5 years left and IMO I don't see MAC level D1 talent with either of them.

And like someone said let J walker watch more. have him a 6-7th man until he can figure out how to take good shots, be a good teammate and bring more to the table than just chucking it up.

RE: Kent State @ Oregon State
There's a problem with 3-point shooters, and that is the coach doesn't want to get into their heads. The long-range guys can't be thinking about missed shots. The coach tells them, 'if you get the ball, and the defense gives you the room, and you got a good look, you got to take the shot'.

If a shooter misses a few and gets gun-shy, you got to put them on the bench, because they're no good on the floor if they can't take a shot. If you don't want them taking shots, you got to put them on the bench. You can't put Jaylin out there and say "don't take shots" - he wouldn't be worth anything offensively.

You can remind them to be fundamentally sound - "make sure you got a good look, don't shoot when you're closely defended, don't shoot it when you're rushed", but you can't tell them "go out there but don't shoot"

1-24 - that's impossible. The gradeschool kids that play at halftime do better than that.

Where are you getting this about the AD?

RE: Kent State @ Oregon State
I remember when J Christian recruited one of my favorite players, Dev Manley. he had one grant left and said they could have gotten a better athlete but they took a player from California who was the best distance shooter that he had seen all year. And how valuable was Dev? IMO, he was the best distance shooter ever at Kent State. He allowed our base line and post players to have very good seasons. Maybe that tells us that a team needs certain elements in order to be able to run a full complement of plays. I see not one reliable shooter on our team. I had heard that Peterson would be that player but he plays 2 minutes at a time. I am afraid that we have a big void out of our 13 players. I really thought that the talent level (athletic) would allow this team to play Kent State defense, and stress teams with athletic ability. Sendy needs to work harder than ever with this team.

Another thing that really bothers me is the type and number of turn overs from our 2 seniors. I have seen both of them literally look the defender in the eyes and pass the ball to them. It is almost like they are color blind.

Respectfully disagree. What you just described is discipline, or lack thereof, and that's on the coaching. Constantly taking bad shots is on the coaching. Allowing a poor shooting team to take 24 3's (while making ONE) on the road is on the coaching. Shooting 39% from the foul line!? It's either on the fact that the entire team doesn't have arms, or it's on the coaching. Fundamentals. Every year. It's beyond time for a change, from the AD down.
