How many times did he do that this year? Once? Maybe twice?
He's a big strong kid...
He slid a bunch, ran out of bounds a bunch and just took dives without regard for where he was on the field. It wasn't always on the 3rd down (Only remember a few in that situation).
But if he is already a big strong kid (6'4 210) it is a either a mental thing or he is being instructed to slide.
I guess I missed all of those slides and I didn't miss a home game and watched every road game. Saw a couple of slides and that's about it.
He slid or went out of bounds on the majority of his runs...But no worries we still have a solid QB coming back next year.
But if we are going to run the read option he needs to be more of a threat

He made some bad throws this year, but the truth is until he has a line that can give him a chance to go through progressions we won't see just how good he is . You have to give him this ,given our O and D lines we wound up eight and five with some good wins.

That may be what is occurring but damn get the first down before you slide...If he is that fragile he needs to get in the gym during the offseason and put on 20 lbs.
I tend to agree with you, but I've tried to figure it out over the season and can't think of anything else. Also, why do they run that play where he hands off and fakes the run, yet never let Ferguson keep the ball? Not much of a fake out when you know he's always going to hand off.
The part I bolded in my original post above (within this post) is what I am talking about. He will step out of bounds 5 yards BEHIND the line of scrimmage instead of having the presence of mind to throw it away and save the yardage. He's a Junior for pete's sake.
Yeah. I mean, he did set all sorts of records and will be remembered as one of the greatest QBs in Tiger history, but those 5 bad decisions he made this year clearly shows that he actually doesn't know what he's doing. And don't get me started with Anthony Miller - I mean, I saw him drop 2 passes this year. Absolutely needs to be benched.
You guys are unbelievable.
I'm not talking about his throwing ability, nor his decision making when throwing. If anything, he is too cautious about avoiding interceptions. He is a GREAT QB. But his running game is NOT good. You can't sugar-coat it. Not good.
I'm a fan. I'm allowed to come on this fan board and discuss his performance.

You're a fan - no doubt. I just didn't see it as a problem. Early in the season, he was running for his life a lot. Last half, when the line adjusted and he got comfortable, he became much more of a running threat. Against WKU is was back to running for his life. At least, that's how I saw it.

Am I 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage? IDK.... I'm just gonna jog out of bounds.
Is anyone pointing out these errors to him in the film room? I hope so.
Maybe he's been told to avoid taking a hard hit. Losing him to injury would probably be worse than having to punt in most cases.
Another good point.

I know Riley score once against OM by keeping the ball on that play, maybe twice. After that not so much, as I recall.

I do agree that the QB run option wasnt much of a threat. After a few games, defenses just went to the RBs and were willing to take their chances with the 5% of
the time that Riley kept it. However, I won't argue with not letting him run as we couldnt afford to lose him.

I would think it was likely what the coaches were worried about. Would be interesting to know.

Some of you guys act like Jason Stewart was a bumbling idiot. I thought he was quite capable when he was in. And once we were eliminated from the conference title, it wouldn't have hurt to put him in more than we did.

Don't any of you remember DeAngelo ? I saw him run out of bounds on many occasions along the side lines when a tackler was approaching him. I feel confident that the coaches told him to not take the unnecessary hits. We could not afford to lose him for any amount of time.
