Interesting doubleheader in hoops tomorrow
[Image: C0KJTY4XEAAhy1P.jpg]

We certainly have some interesting marketing ideas this year. Actually the Rice women vs. the Rice men might be a more competitive game as both teams play non-division I opponents and both should be rather lopsided final scores.

BTW the women play at 5 and the men probably around 7:15 or so if you do want to watch both games.

Per the poster, both games are at 7 pm.

10 on 10 co-ed basketball. Now that's unconventional wisdom!

I wonder why the women's opponent is not specified in the poster, beyond the Rams mascot (Colorado State?).

Well I'm sure it's just a case of using a logo to represent the opponent and they went with the Huston Tillotson Rams logo. They could have used this one instead.

I like the St. Thomas logo by the way - I like how the lion's mouth (I'm assuming that's a lion) forms the C in Celts. It's certainly a lot more interesting than the generic Huston Tillotson logo.

...while men are playing in a fog against St. Thomas. Shooting has been ice cold. Was only 6-6 through first 7 minutes, with Jackson, Egor and Evans all "off"...but the second team has starting hitting shots. Cashaw and Lott both playing well yet again.

19 - 15 Owls with 7:49 remaining.

Harrison comes in and immediately scores 6 consecutive points, then Evans finally hits his first two shots (2-7 FG) and Rice opens up a 35-25 lead with 4 minutes to go in the half. Harrison, Lott, Cashaw and Adams all playing well and leading the charge. 7 different players with 4 or more points. On down side, we're shooting only 40% and have a ton of turnovers.

After an 0-4 shooting start, with 3 TOs, Evans has hit his last 3 shots. 40 - 30 Rice with 1:51 remaining. St. Thomas has one guy with 12 points (5-7 FGs), 6 boards and 2 assists.

Egor hits back-to-back 3s (his first of the game). Talk about balanced scoring-- Egor leads the way with 11 points (4 boards 2 steals), followed by Jackson with 10, Lott/Harrison/Adams all with 6, Evans with 5 (6 assists, 2 steals) and Cashaw with 4 (7 rebounds).

50 - 33 Rice at the half. No one's in foul trouble. Really strong ending to the half. Shooting now up to 47.4%, and we're 7-8 from the line. 11 assists to 10 TOs. We've got 22 boards to their 15.

Fortunately, we found our groove the final 3 minutes of the half.

We continue our strong play after half: 61 - 37 at the 15:06 mark. Egor now with 18 points and 6 boards; Cashaw with 6 points and 11 boards (new career high). Evans with 7 assists, but 5 TOs, and only 2-9 shooting. The Owls D has already forced 9 TOs this half.

Second and third team getting a lot of minutes. Drones and Martin now in; waiting for a Mency siting. 69 - 42 at the 12:04 mark. 8 players with at least 5 points.

73 - 43 at the 10:04 mark. Mency now on the court with Martin, Meyers, Adams and Jackson (who sat the last 5+ minutes). D has forced 23 TOs already. Amazing given this was a 6-6 game at the 15:00 mark of the first half.

Second and third teamers really struggling scoring right now. St. Thomas on a 9-0 run, and have closed to within 21 with 5:28 remaining. Lott, Harrison and Cashaw reinserted, joining Adams and Martin on the court.

More like our 3rd teamers. We played sloppy at the beginning and end, but the final 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half we absolutely dominated in all facets of the game.
