Interesting that they would rank a Freshman #5 for 3B. How do you deserve a ranking if you've never played?
Totally baffling. I asked Kendall and Aaron if Sheppard (1B) and Myers (3B) would have been ranked in their Top 50 at those positions had they been considered and Kendall responded that Sheppard definitely would have been, but that he had Myers as a starting pitcher.
All I can say is that if Myers is at 3B when not pitching, Sheppard at 1B, and Moss/Dunlap/Sarchet at DH, we don't have an easy out in our entire lineup. Going to be VERY interesting to see how Wayne writes up the lineup card. My early guess is as follows...
Warren (L)
Myers ®
Gray (L)
Proctor (L)
Sheppard ®
Chandler (L)
DiCaprio/Lammons ®
Moss/Dunlap ® - Sarchet (L)
Wunderlich ®
I agree Walt. I think this team has a chance to be really, really good. Provided pitching gets/stays healthy it could be a fun season. I'd love to be trying to find CWS tix here in a few months.

BTW, LSU just lost their stud DH/1B, Bryce Jordan, for the season. He led the team in OBP last year, hitting .293, with 5 HRs, 33 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

They have Moss as the top freshman.

My bad; I somehow missed Addison's name on the list. I wouldn't put Silber as our #2 Freshman, however.

From the article, note that Coastal Carolina had 55/1 odds of winning the College World Series before the 2016 season, so we're in great shape....

D1baseball ranks the Otto-man the #3 relief pitcher in the country...
https://d1baseball.com/position-power-ra...58479668-1
...interestingly, A&M's Corbin Martin is ranked #2 despite having a 5.47 ERA last season in just 26.1 IP. Note both Stanford and DBU have top 10 ranked closers.

Strange because I believe the only poll in which we're not rated is BA, and we were #27 in Collegiate Baseball. All the others had us between #20 and #25. Consequently, now sure how they did their scoring with Washington, A&M and Miami coming in ahead of us. I love their comment on the Aggies-- 6 of their 7 .300 hitters from last year are gone (as well as 85% of their HRs and 60% of their pitching).

RE: Pre-season Baseball Polls
Perfect Game just posted their staff predictions for the upcoming season, and our own Darryn Sheppard was one of six "impact transfers" identified...
https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/Vie...icle=13523
Quote:Darryn Sheppard, Rice
During his three years at Baylor Darryn Sheppard hit 14 career home runs, including eight bombs last spring as a junior. Now a graduate student transfer who enrolled in January, Sheppard brings big offensive thump to the middle of a Rice program that opens the year as the 21st-ranked team in the nation. For an offense that already returns six of their seven top bats from 2016, Sheppard is an added bonus for legendary Head Coach Wayne Graham. – Jheremy Brown
