This is actually about the best news we could have reasonably have asked for. Now we will get an AD not married to either sadler or hopson. If....IF....we make a good hire, then we have a lot more hope for both programs. Billy mc wasnt firing anyone any time soon and if he were to....i had no faith in his next hire(s).

So, the MAIS AAAA player of the year didn't get a baseball scholarship as announced by the baseball coach and the university press people have nothing better to do than whip out press releases to fit the wants and agendas of each student that receives a scholarship of any kind. I'm sure glad that you played college baseball and "know how this stuff works" and are willing to share your expertise because it doesn't make a lick of sense to us commoners.

It's simple. If a kid is good enough to get an athletic scholarship, but has other means such as academic or leadership scholarships, they will always use the other options because they only get 11.7 scholarships in baseball. But of course the kid wants it to look like he's getting a baseball scholly just like everybody else. So they release his name just like the rest of the signees. It's not hard to understand. My roommate in college had this exact same situation. He was actually on academic scholarship but he came to the same signing day ceremony as the rest of us and signed the same (useless) pieces of paper as the rest of us while the newspaper took pictures. The school included him on the same signing list as the rest of us. He didn't request all that, it was just commonplace.

Admittedly I have no inside knowledge on this particular situation. But I'd imagine the kid was coming here basically for free regardless, so why would Berry waste some of his limited scholarship money ?

He's too lazy to go tell Billy Mac and his kid, "hey, you're going to San Diego, **** off." Or maybe he just figures the kid will never want to see Hattiesburg again anyway. Who knows? People are weird. But above all else, I'll tell you this: people- for example, people from South Mississippi- are lazy. Some stuff just boils down to flat-out laziness.

Or maybe the kid's just good at baseball. Somebody said he was class sump-nother's player of the year.

However, I know Scott Berry. He is not lazy. Is he the best coach in D-1 ? Nope. But he cares a lot about the program and does the best he can. I can say that much for him.
