There's no question the man can coach. The only quesrtion I have is whether or not he will recruit at a high enough level to have elite teams here not just very good ones.

Everyone who is knowledgeable about and follows CBB is wondering the same thing. Only time will tell. I think the question of whether he can coach up 2-3 stars into a S16 team has been answered; it was kind of crazy to begin with.

Genericay speaking, you have right everything; recruits, coach, schedule, player development and a committee that selects you and gives you a decent seed chance to get there. Hard enough to do with 4 stars.

Tubby has 3 now; Dedric was a 5 till he committed early. But no depth or recruits signed for 16-17 that contribute much.

He doesn't need to recruit Memphis basketball will recruit itself.

Hooray! Someone with some sense!
I agree completely.

So, all the staff needs to do is sit in their offices and wait for the 4&5 star kids to call begging to play for Memphis?

Today more than ever, outside of a very few blue blood schools, you can't take anything, especially recruiting, for granted. It takes persistent hard work, early and often, to land the highly touted recruits.

Thoughts on this post:

Tubby is a great bench coach and he's going to win BIG games in his tenure. Hopefully his last stop before entering the HOF

Pastner couldnt even wash Larry Finch's jock strap. Larry won HUGE games and should have been in the F4 had we not got cheated in the Arkansas game. Also I was in Freedom Hall for the 1986 Metro Tourny. It was Larrys first season and we were ineligible due to Kirk and Larrys team CURBSTOMPED the entire field including UL in the finals. Denny Crum was crying about us being allowed to play in the metro tournament since we weren't eligible for the NCAA Torny

Maybe if we stop doing that stupid chant.....

You are not an Alum are you? or a tiger fan? Are you ?

I probably went to Memphis St before you were born

The chant sucks

We yelled "hey hey take that ball to the hoop" when I was a student

The band played batman theme after every Baskerville Holmes basket

They played 3 blind mice after every bad call - heard the refs and NCAA made them stop

That chant sucks

Did I say that chant sucks ?

Problem?

I loved the Three Blind Mice in the Mid South Coliseum.

We sang that in 74-78. And we didn't let no stinking refs (who many were vision dysfunctional) make us stop singing.

Games were fun for students back in the day. A couple of things we did (in addition to the student band playing Three Blind Mice) were reading newspapers when the visiting team was announced and jingling our keys when one of their players fouled out.

Can't jingle car keys anymore because there's only one (if that many), and it doesn't jingle. Then they replaced the newspaper routine with "You suck," and the creativity of the past just continued to decline. Too bad. Games were fun for students back then -- win or lose -- and we stuck around for the whole thing regardless. There's a reason Al McGuire gave us an Irish salute. We earned it!

Promoting sportsmanship on the playing surface as well as in the stands.

Surprised NCAA hasn't yet started handing out participation trophies to the players after every game.

Yeah the NCAA really cares about sportsmanship with their selective prosecution
