What is the bravest thing you've ever seen?
Bravery:

This is what is best in man. While fear grips you, you fight on despite the consequences with no assurance of victory. I've seen true bravery a few times in person. It always leaves me speechless, and in awe of those who meet the task.

Along this line, what is the bravest thing you've ever done or seen?

I'm reminded of D-day stories such as those communicated on the 40th anniversary of that battle:

I'm curious to hear your experiences.

The bravest thing I have ever seen? That's easy, it was my late wife's struggle with cancer. She is my hero. During the time she was undergoing chemo she was deathly sick and in pain, she never once said "why me?" or felt sorry for herself. She knew she was dying but her concern was not for herself but for me and her family. Among her last words to me when she was in hospice were "I'm sorry to put you through this." It has been 12 years, but her struggle is still the bravest thing I have ever seen.

This.

Anyone who goes through life with pain or disease is truly a brave person. TV and movies often make the word bravery synonymous with wars or pulling a person from a burning car. Yes this is bravery. But there's just as much bravery coming from the person who walks down the street trying live a normal life while every day struggling with something physical or mental. These are the often forgotten heroes because we don't always know their pain and suffering.

My deepest condolences. She was obviously courageous despite the dire circumstances...yet her concerns were for others and not herself. Altruism is another trait that characterizes what is best in man.

I'm always astounded by these stories. A colleague of mine recently succumbed to lung cancer and I never heard a single complaint from him despite the fact he was on chemo most of the time. This is the kind of courage that truly inspires me.

What an incredible woman you were blessed to be married to. Thanks for sharing this personal story. Cancer has touched everyone in some manner. My mom has successfully beaten ovarian cancer but I lost an aunt many years ago to breast cancer. One day this terrible disease will be broken with a cure.

As our Muslim friends say, God willing.
